I can not locate a wiring diagram that has the location or wire needed to install a relay for wiper protection on this 2007 kia sorento. i plan on doing this with your help.
30- wiper wire in
87a- wiper wire out
85- 12v+
86- nwr- from remote start
hows this?

Reverse 85 and 86 and a 1N4004 diode across them with its band towards 86, this will protect your R/S from relay shutdown, also if your unit only has one GWR (aka STATUS OUTPUT) then again make a "Y" with a 1N4004 in each leg, one towards this relay the other towards by-pass etc.

Sorry please reverse 30 and 87a, it just means you are now wiring the relay to the proper pin convention, I'm not just being OCD about this, it's very relevant if you used a similar setting to trigger say a defroster or trunk release wire, 87a MUST be the source or grounded at rest.
Diodes on the "Y" in the above post should have their bands towards the R/S.

the wire you want is at the switch itself.
GREEN (+) just break with a relay.
and Howie II congrats on 5stars and the "Information" metal. ------------- Ted

Er, about the last year, still makes me the only one outside North America, young whippersnapper.
Do you know what I hate about you and your "twin" Darren,
It's those gorgeous young ladies in your facebook photos, they all look about 18!
Now read the post "manual transmission install" for a good laugh.

thanks so much. so RULE....87a is always the source. did not think it would matter but will never forget. the green at the switch( is the 12v supply to the circuit, ignition that is)

I always use DMM. so no problem there. is there a diode needed across the terminals themselves as in the first response to this post. Or just in the GWR legs to isolate the two different "modules"

Yes much but copy the ISO convention, 85 is the NEG and 86 is the POS on the coil. I know in this instance it makes no difference.
I know I sound OCD but honestly if you ever have to look at a factory relay, failure to follow could cause system damage on modern vehicles.
Remember the third diode, across those coil terminals*, band to 86 it can protect your R/S.
*Some relays have a built in diode, especially prevalent on far Eastern vehicles such as yours, hence my comments.

i think you have covered everything. Thank you very much. The relay across the coil is to protect from sudden spikes am I correct. So in general.... never a bad idea to just put one on right.

Yes about the spikes, I learned the hard way (blown alarm components) when I got lazy, I daren't now and so to get it right, neither should you. The other two diodes are to protect your by-pass and the relay and the alarm from each other!

I agree. At .06 a piece for 4004 diode and negligble time it is time and money well spent. The RIGHT way is the ONLY way. Thanks
