I've been reading through these forums for quite a while trying to solve a problem I've been having with my remote start installation. I haven't found any solutions in previous posts, but perhaps someone can help.
In my girlfriends 2004 Olds Alero i've been trying to install a ProStart CT3471TW with little success. I had all the connections made and was attempting to program the unit when it blew the main 30A power fuse.
Tried another fuse, it blew. Began removing all the connections to the car at the ignition harness, trying to isolate the problem but kept blowing the same 30A fuse.
I also tried running direct power from the battery to the unit, as well as a direct ground to the battery.
Now i have all the wiring disconnected except for the two 30A fused 12V power wires, ground, parking lights, and brake switch.
I have discovered that disconnecting the parking lights does stop the unit from blowing the 30A power fuse, so i suspect there is a problem there.
The yellow 15A fused wire from the unit is connected to the brown wire in the drivers kick panel. That brown wire shows 12V when the park lights are on, and nothing when they are off, so I am relatively certain that it is the right wire. I have checked, double checked and triple checked every wiring diagram i can find online and they say that wire should be the right one.
Is there something i'm not doing right for this unit to work properly? I have seen one diagram that says there is a negative parking light wire at the BCM in the gray plug, pin B1. Should i be using that wire instead, with the negative parking light output on the unit?

there are two 30amp fuses.
one on the RED wire and one on the RED / WHITE. The red is used to power the brain, while the RED / white is used for acc,ign and start.
i would suggest using the negative parking lights. make sure you are testing ALL wires with a DMM (digital multi meter)
i dont see prostart being sold outside of canada, so i assume youre in canada? ------------- Ted

Thanks for the reply tedmond, and yes I am in Canada.
Both of the power wires are solid red, although only one of the 30A fuses are blowing. I assume that is the wire that powers the brain. I did use a DMM to test all the wires before hooking them up.
I will try the negative parking lights today and see if that makes a difference. I'll post my results here either way.
Thanks again.

you might have a defective brain, try swapping it at your local Crappytire, and see if that works.
I have yet to see one go bad right out of the box, but have replaced a few down the road. ------------- Ted
