Hi
Today I brought my Dodge Ram 2500 to get a Viper 5901 installed.
The guy got everything installed without problem (so he said).

When he was trying to program the key module he never got the start to work.
I think the module is XK531.

When I hit the start button the ignition comes on, radio and stuff, but no attempt to start.

I'm worried that he has something else done wrong and that's why it won't start.
Any advise????

The guy spent 4hours trying to "program it".........

Also I don't see a led bulb anywhere. Should I have a led on my dash?

Thanks
Donald

if its expresskit it should be a xk532 or a DLPKCHG2 or the new dball or xk09 would work

if he is having trouble programing the transponder in the first two i have had to open them and touch the transponder to the key cylinder before to get them to program

the last two i mentioned do not use a transponder i don't think would have to look at the instructions

Thank you so much for the help!

My receipt said xk531......
I'm assuming that is actually what he used, although I didn't see it with my own eyes.

I will call them tomorrow morning to confirm.

Thanks!
Donald

You can also use a pkumux or ads-al-ca on that truck. You got this done at a shop and they couldnt figure out a 08 Ram?posted_image

I prefer the flcan on these vehicles. Also why is the customer asking this one and not the shop that did it lol.

And why did the customer pay if the job wasn't done?

Yes I'm the customer.....
This shop is one of the 2 authorized dealers for viper. The guy said "my installer is the best around".....
Yeah right!

I'm asking the questions because I am extremely OCD and I need to know what's going on. Lol.

Yes I paid these idiots......

The installer said he couldn't reach tech support "because they are all at CES show". Which is total B.S. He also assured me that he installed a xk532 in my truck.
I think they are sitting around scratching their heads!!

I feel extremely sick about this now!

its in the notes of the xk532 that if there is no conventional starter wire to hook the RS starter wire to start input and attach a 1000 ohm resistor to ground

So do any of you know if this is the case with a 2008 Dodge Ram?

Once again thanks for all the help!
I'm hoping to get all this resolved on Monday or Tuesday.

Alright my first post in like a year.
Yes that is correct for the 2008 Ram.

Have him try the remote start with the key in the cylinder without turning it. It should start. If not, then his wiring is screwed up.

There are a couple unique things about this bypass.
1st- Make sure the 1000 ohm resistor is connected in parallel with the pink ignition input on the bypass to ground
2nd- programming sucks. That's why I use the data bypass for it.
3rd- make sure the bypass is programmed for CHDL7 firmware.

I personally take the bypass apart when programming to get the chip as close as possible to the SKIM module. And I take one key apart to do step 2 in programming versus jumping an ignition wire. However, it has been forever since I have programmed one of those and it will take me around 4 tries to program the bypass. FLCAN for the win!

Here's the guide if he needs it.

Yimke,
Thanks for your help.
I put the key into the cylinder and tried to remote start it.

No luck.....
Ignition comes on... A few clicks, dash lights flash, then the check engine light starts flashing.
No start.

Thanks for any advice!

Hi guys,

My Remote start is on the 12 min run time (default).
The installer did an awful job on install, and when I asked him what it was set for, he gave me a confused look and said "they are all different, I'm not sure".

I don't want to deal with this installer or the shop anymore.

Could somebody give me instructions on putting the 5901 into program mode and adjusting run time.
I also can't get the vehicles temp to show on the remote.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Donald

the manual for the 5901 is on this site under downloads, just search for 5901. I have the 5901 myself and its quite easy to program the options, just a few pushes of the valet button. To get the temp to display you push the function button once, it will beep, then you push it (the function button) down again and hold it for about 3 seconds and the temp should display. If not then something might be fubar'd.

I have the manual that came with the system and looked at the online manual (same) and don't see instructions for changing the run time on the remote start.

When I press the function button 1 time it says "level 1" press again it says "level 2" and so on.....

Is something wrong with this thing??

Please help

The manual that came with the system is the user manual.

Look at the 5901 install manual and it goes through the steps needed to program everything.

the install manual does not come with the unit and only through the great work of people on this board is it available to the DIY.

yes you need to look at the installation manual not the user manual. And i said to push the function button once, then push and hold it for about 3 seconds.

Thanks so much for the help!

I didn't realize that there was an install manual here. That will help greatly.

Back to the function button.....
I press function and release the button. As soon as I release it the screen says level1. When I hit it again to hold for 3sec, it says level 2.

Thanks again!

hmm, well that doesnt seem right, that is not how mine works. It should do a temperature report after you push it once and then hold it on the second push... Maybe someone else knows what's up with that, or it could be that something is not working correctly.

Having installed Clifford product for many years previously, I hated the Viper programming, it's hard. With Clifford it was almost a reflex action, just straight in, job done.
Some rules for Viper programming:-
Read the instructions at least twice.
Have patience. Lots of it.
The instructions are correct, they are written in installer shorthand.
Don't even attempt if you have a short fuse temper or high blood pressure.
You will get it right....eventually.
