I'm installing a remote starter in my 2009 Hyundai Sonata. My wiring guide says to tap the ignition, accessory, etc. wires at the "ignition harness". Is the only way to access this ignition harness at the back of the key cylinder? Holy #$#*@! Its way up under the dash and the wires have no slack in them. I've installed 3 remote starters but I think this has to be the hardest one I've done.

Or is there some other place to pick up these wires?

I've already found the red & pink constant 12v wires in the driver's kick panel. But this still leaves 3 wires to hook up at the hard-to-reach harness.

Thanks for any help.

I did take the dash apart, and did find that harness. It just seems like there isn't much wire to work with, and I have to soldier up inside the dash instead of down lower closer to me. Thank you for that helpful picture, at least I know I'm looking at the right harness now. I paid $5 tonight to wirecolor.com because they said they had some pictures but they turned out to be not helpful at all, just a close up of the connector. It didn't show me where the connector was actually located like your picture did.

Thanks.

see if you can unplug the harness and get it closer to you

I agree with Monty_77.   The ignition harness can be unplugged from the key cylinder to make access easier.   You also need to cut back the protective sleeve on the ignition wires to gain access to the wires.

One unplugged and with the sleeve removed, you should have enough room.

I did unplug it, and stripped back the sheath. Unfortunately the harness comes down from the top and then connects to the ignition cylinder. So when you unplug it, it doesn't come any closer to me. This one looks tough! My last two (2000 Taurus and 97 Avalon) were a piece of cake compared to this.

I have found a couple of these ignition wires in other places - the drivers kick panel and the back of the fusebox. So I will probably only have to hook 2-3 wires at the ignition harness, which will help.

Thanks for the quick replies.
