I have just finished the install of the rs into a 2001 Windstar, tried to tach learn, nothing happened, checked connections of tach(tried injector then coil), ign, acc, start, even replaces power and grounds direct to battery. Thought I had a bad module, tried a new unit, same result. Should mention that I cannot get it to perform reset procedure with program switch either. I am at a loss and don't know where to look next. checked voltages during key start, seem ok, tripple checked ign and acc connections.

Kind of sounds like your system does not know you are trying to program it. Are you sure the ignition wire to the brain of the system is getting +12V when the key is in the run position? I have only done a few Ultra's so I can not speak specifically to your system, but all of the systems I can think of require an +12V input to put the system into programming mode.

Which wire (color) on the car did you use for the Tach? Did you test that wire with a DMM set on AC? Are the hood pin and brake wires connected?

Does the remote start control the locks OK? If the locks work the antenna and remotes are good. (The remotes usually come already programmed to the brain.)
To be able to enter into program mode the U1272's heavy Blue wire must see the cars Ignition go on and off, on and off, on. Verify that connection with a DMM. If the U1272 does not see +12v on that wire from the car, it will not go into program mode. ------------- Soldering is fun!

Thats part of the problem, the remotes are not programmed to the brain and it needs to be tach learned to continue any other programming. The voltage was measured at the module, even tried accessing programming by watching the dvom readings. will see the car again monday evening, which now seems to have other problems according to the customer

My usual procedure is to bench test and program the unit after I mate the bypass to it. When I hook up the battery to the two power wires and connect the ground, I get the two Parking light flashes ( LED test probe on White Parking Light wire). Then I test the remotes with a lock and unlock. (The 5ms horn output is a little hard to see on the LED test probe.) The remotes are usually already programmed to the brain but sometimes I will switch to another style of remote at the customers request. I simulate the ignition cycling with a jumper to +12v and the heavy Blue ignition wire. You can do a Factory Reset and / or set all the program options before ever installing it in the vehicle. The only issue noticed is that on the G11 Ultra Start units, the blue antenna LEDs will not blink when locked until the brain has Tach learned.
