Subject: need astrostart antenna?
Date Posted: January 20, 2011 at 9:30 PM
I think I may need to get a new antenna for my astrostart model 4200. I dont get very good range from it. Sometimes it will start from about 200 feet away and other times it will not start till I am like 10 feet away, I was reading that you should not reuse the antenna?
Does anyone know were I can get a new one?
Thanks

Ya I belive it is a two way there are colored buttons the lock is red and the ? is blue
Have you ever ran into this sort of problem?
The guy I had install it could not use a bypass module cause it would not program. he said it could be there are too many key made for the van. So he had to do a key wrap. He did not hook up the hood switch or back door(trunk)
When I push the start button it beebs like it should but then a few seconds go by and it beeps once and then nothing no lights come on or anything I have to then be standing right next to the van or inside of it.

what type of vehicle is it in and what bypass.
most Chrysler or Dodges can store up to 8 keys. i have never run into this problems. I have run into where the key would not program but not because it was full just because it will not go into program mode.
some first gen Chrysler after a few failed attempts i heard they go into a mode that will not let it go into programing from the keys
the model you have is a 2205U 0r 4205U the main brain should have a BD (same brain) on it.
sometime that antenna wire can be damaged and not make good connections or it could be the antenna it self but most of the time its just the wire that gets damaged from removing it from another vehicle.

it is on a 2003 Town&Country Van. I am not sure what bypass it was,if he could have got it to work it would have cost me 60.00 extra.
He said I could take the van to the dealer and they could clear out the keys and reprogram the 2 I had and then the bypass might work...I hate to keep bugging him but if it dont work right I think I should..he said I would need a dual bypass inorder to make the sliding doors and the back door to work. Is that true?
The guy I had install it has done alot of them and should know what he is doing??? he works at a shop that is a dealer for astrostart. I was not to happy that he could not get the bypass to work cause when he did the key wrap he had to wrap something around my ignition and you can see what looks like electical tape around the ignition where the key goes in. Should the hood switch work? Does this affect any part of it?
Do you have or know were I could get a new wire to the antenna? He also uesd velcro to hold the antenna on the windsheild could there be a problem there?

if i had to guess at the bypass they used it would be a xk531 or a DLPKCHG1 (both the same thing)
pretty sure they use xpresskits
there are a lot of bypasses out there that can be programed with one key in Chrysler now xpresskit DLPKGM or the Idatalink TB with do the job with out having to go to the dealership.
if you want your key back.
as for the sliding doors it can be done with resistors and the outputs on the Remotes starter and not sure what they mean by a dual bypass.
might be a little easier with a door lock module (xpresskit xk03 or DLCH) but not all that hard the module has the resistor in it (most likely will charge you extra for it ether way)
if you want to do it yourself and feel comfortable with it i can send you direction of what you have to do.
never know he might of used a module for the doorlocks and if thats the case its might just a few wires to hook to that to make it work.
i can even help you with reprogramming if necessary
the hood pin should work it is a safety devices that keeps the remotes start from working when the hood is open (that install must not care about other peoples fingers) i know there is a switch to shut off astrostarts but would you remove your seatbelts because you got an airbag.
that vehicle has an OEM hood pin switch that can be used and do not have to run a wire throught the firewall.
the hood pin also make it so you do not have to get under the dash to program in a new transmitter if you every have to.
as for the antenna wire i can get you one for 8 dollars plus shipping would send it USPS first class in padded envelope to save money. if it would make you feel better i can post a listing on ebay and email the link to you too. i would have to order it.
or you can ask that dealer to order it for you. part number 310-058-000
as for the Velcro it should not bother the receiver.
are you still getting 2 way communication with the transmitter (is it calling you back)
where did he mount the antenna at on the windshield? this guy is starting to sound like he would of just mounted under the dash.
by the way if it is the Receiver (Antenna) then that would be closer to 50 dollars

quick question did you try a new battery in the transmitter
that can affect range the most out of anything

I went and took a look under the dash and there are alot of wires that are not hooked up. if you are looking at the unit with the harness towards you it is the harness on the right. I did check out the wire for the antenna and it looks ok at the brain. Also when I start it the red LED flashes really fast. I did not see any modual under there anyplace.
Were is the wire for the OEM hood pin?
If I know were the wires are and what ones I need to hook up I have no problem trying to hook things up.
How much are those moduals that you said are needed for the doors?
The antenna is mounted right behind the rear veiw mirror down about 5-6 inchs from the top

the flashing led when start is normal it just the tach signal.
send me an email in a PM or email me and i will send you the wire references with pic make it easy for you.
also if you tell me the color of the wires not used i can help you with that and what they do it is on the back of the Brain
as for the xk03 module it 20 dollars on ebay but will need to be flashed with chdl6 firmware and you will need two 1-amp diodes
if you go this route check that they will flash it with the right firmware before buying.
it's not that hard to just use resistor. you can get them at radio shack for like 5 bucks
i do advise to solder the connections too. if you don't have an iron you can get one for under 10 bucks that will work for this one install. just fine i would advise a 25 watt at least.
The mount for the antenna should be fine just wanted to make sure it was in a good location.
