Hello, everyone. I am looking for a alarm / remote start system for my 2006 F350 PSD with the factory keypad on the driver side door. In my research I have found that the only alarms that can be used with the keypad are the ones with a arm/disarm input, such as the older code alarm setups. Looking at the new alarms from compustar, DEI, and Audiovox, I came across this alarm, the
Omega Excalibur AL-2030-EDPB. Which according to the installation manual does have negative pulse arm and disarm inputs. So am I correct in assuming that this alarm can be wired into the keypad to arm & disarm the Omega alarm?
 
Also does anyone have a wiring diagram for the keypad on a 2006 F350 PSD crewcab?
 
Any help would be greatly appreciated by yours truly. As well as others whom I'm sure would like to use their original keypad along with the added security of an after market alarm.

There are quite a few manufacturers that offer systems that can be triggered by the vehicle's door locks. Avital's 3001 is one of those types of systems. You would not use the keypad on the door itself to control the system, you would use the door locks. The keypad on the door controls the door locks so you would be able to control the system from it.

Yes basically I want to be able to disarm the alarm with the door locks, but NOT with the door lock switch. IIRC the code alarm(s) had another input for the door locks that if it received a pulse the same time the disarm input did it wouldn't disarm. That would keep someone from breaking in and hitting the unlock switch and shutting off the alarm.

As far as I know the Excalibur doesn't have this second input. That is why I'm looking for a wiring diagram of the ford keypad. I'm hoping I can use a diode or relay to make the alarm ignore the door lock switch, but except input from the keypad.

OK I went to the Ford dealer, and they tell me that the keypad is wireless, and that it functions in the same way as a key fob. I had them print out a wiring diagram for the door locks, the switches, and the VSM. The lock/unlock switches are tied into the VSM, then the VSM is tied to the lock motors. I think I have a way to control the alarm with the keypad, AND disable the unlock switches while the system is armed. Tell me what you guys think.
 
 My plan is to use 3 12v relays, two of them SPST and one dual coil latching DPDT.  One SPST relay will be tired in parallel with the 12v unlock pulse from the VSM to the locks, and the other SPST will be tied into the 12v lock pulse from the VSM. the alarm arm and disarm inputs will be tied into the NO contact on their respective relays and com will be tied to ground. That should give the alarm the negative pulses it needs to see to arm and disarm with the reverse polarity door lock system. No problem....???
 
NOW to break the unlock switch wire to the VSM while the system is armed I will use the OEM alarm arm & disarm outputs to latch and unlatch a dual coil DPDT relay. I will cut the unlock switch wire and tie it into the NC & COM contacts of the relay.  When I arm the system, the alarm will send a neg pulse to one side of the relay breaking the unlock switch wire. When the system is disarmed the alarm will send out another negative pulse to the other coil unlatching it, and enabling the door locks. Presto! maybe...... I still need to verify that the key pad is indeed wireless, and that the doorlocks are reverse polarity as I am getting mixed information off the net.
 
I just thought this up so please dont laugh.. And if the way i explained it doesnt make sense to any of you Ill draw you a picture, I KNOW I COULD USE ONE! haha ow my brain hurts...

I ordered the Omega AL-2030-edp alarm this weekend. It should be here by the end of this week or the beginning of the next. I also ordered the relays I need, including the dual coil latching relay. I still need to pick up the diodes I need for the door ajar switches. I hope I can at least get those from Radio Shack. (The look on the guy's face at RS when I asked if they had any 12v dual coil latching relays was priceless! It was as if to ask me "why can't you just buy a phone?" haha)

If anyone has any input about my ideas I'm all ears. I would like to head off any pitfalls or problems before I tear into this.

Also I am re-thinking about my idea to use the +lock output from the VSM (polarity changed to -) to arm the alarm. Would this cause problems with the factory auto-locks (locks the doors when the truck gets to 10-15mph)? Basically I don't want the system to arm while I'm driving down the road when the truck autolocks. If the Omega alarm ignores the arm input while the ignition is in the accessory or run positions I think I'll be fine, if not I think I'll need another relay to break the arm input wire while the ignition is in the accessory or run positions. Thoughts?
