alpine 8126

All you alarm experts, What would be the best way to permanently disarm this alarm? I'm assuming you just can't disconnect the plugs form the brain box. I've got a short somewhere in it, almost smoked my car, the red lights were flashing when i turned the ignition to start. There's also a black box under my hood with alpine written on it with a rocker switch, maybe a valet switch? I have no wiring diagram so I'm really in the dark and a newbie at alarms. I just want to get the car started I don't need the alarm anymore. Any ideas would be of help, no one in my town will touch it!

And unless there's a remote start involved or lousy wiring an alarm can't pull enough juice to "smoke" your car.

Thanks TT and Howie, Maybe i should explain more correctly. First the car is a "Peugeot 505" enough said, when I recently went to start the car it started fine, but it has a IR sensor that was original equipment up in a map light cluster for a factory alarm they must have tied into. The red lights were flashing, but I didn't realize it till I smelled something burning! the wiring to that sensor was melting and started to burn my headliner!! By the way I never had any problem with the Alpine all the time I had it.

Well that says it all, t&t knows my comments about Pugs and their PITA electrics, that bloody infra red KE system never worked on either French cars (A.K.A. CRAP = Citroen, Renault and Peugeot) or the Rovers and UK made Hondas that also used that "wonderful" Valeo system.
Average life cycle was about 18 months, I had to work on an 04 607 recently, no sound from the stereo, it appears they use a control unit behind the glovebox that links, Bluetooth, Sat Nav, audio and CD changer, cost = $1800!

Look for fuses on the alpine or simply pull the plugs, then make sure the car starts.
At least in Florida it won't rust away like they all do here they almost make Lancias seem like sound cars...er no nothing can be as bad but wait, you lucky people are going to get Lancias again next year.
Next year they will be selling a 15 year old E class Mercedes design reject, taken up by Chrysler as the 300E and now to be sold in Europe as a Lancia, probably sell just as few over here as the 300!

Thanks to you guys who commented on my problem, will proceed with caution,should be able to figure something out given time. Although I've been a sports car owner for many years Healey 3000, Jag xk 150, boy I wish I had them now I tend to agree about Pugs, but I have the v-6 gas 5 spd model and it's been very dependable. Sure do like the looks of that RCZ, but we will never see Peugeot return here!! Thanks again. PS AHH the days of one page wiring diagrams, but time marches on!!

You've discovered the basic Pug problem, they look lovely but the body work is tissue paper, decent engines, great ride, and awful electrics.
You can forget one page wiring diagrams, I remember the early 70s, the E-type and Mk.10 had diagrams in the owners manual.
I recently had to work on a Daimler SP 250 (Dart) before it was restored, lovely idea an MX 5 (Miata) size vehicle with a gem of a small block 2.5l V8 until Jaguar killed it. Trouble is, with decent electrics and bodywork the MX 5 is so much a better car than all those MGBs etc.
Actually the 505 was the best of the breed, after that came the 605 which was a Saab 9000/Fiat Chroma/Lancia Thema/Alfa 166 clone. All trouble except the Saab (they used their own engines and better electrics).

You are right, if you unplug an 8126 it will not let you start the car. The box under the hood is a relay for ignition kill and the rocker turns it on/off. If the orange wire(which comes from the main unit) does not see ground the car won't start. What you are going to need to do is trace the 2 larger red wires on the relay to thier origin. When it was installed someone cut a wire under the hood and connected the red wires to it. You need to reconnect this wire together as it came from the factory. This and unplugging the main unit should get you going...

But if this has nothing to do with the Alpine which is probably the most reliable part of the car, why are you removing it?
