Hello everyone, thanks for reading my post.
I just got a 96' Chevy 3500 extended cab 1ton dually w/service utility body. and I'm going to want to install an alarm soon. the alarm would have to be able to monitor all the tool boxes (9) as well as the normal functions. it would be nice to have remote start, but its not a deal breaker.
My question is this: Is there any line or model of alarms that i should consider over others. because of the multiple boxes on the truck? or is this no problem for any alarm.?
also unrelated question if i may.. Ive read online that this truck has stock key less entry. or at least had the option. I was only given a single key when i bought the truck. never thought to ask, nor did he say anything about that. but is there somewhere i can look to find out if it does have it. then id just need to get a key fob for it.

This is really an opinion type of question, but my preference is DEI products. Remote start in that truck is pretty simple, so I would go for a unit that does that too. Have a look at the Avital 5103 or 5303. As far as tying into the tool boxes...you will have to install a switch in each box. You can tie it into the trunk input trigger.

Even if it didn't come with keyless from the factory, adding keyless isn't too difficult if you have factory power locks. Take a look at the
doorlock relay diagrams section, above you will see it's pretty straight forward IMO.

Do yourself a favor and run 9 individual wires from the switch in each box to the alarm's brain. This will make it much easier to troubleshoot.

Hey guys , thanks for the input. great tip on the 9 individual pin switch wires. I'm pretty sure I'm picking up what your putting down. so if there were a problem in the future related to the boxes, i could quickly identify the faulty box by disconnecting them one by one. correct?
Would it be possible for the pin switches to pull double duty? id like to also add lights in all the boxes. or should that be a second switch per box and on its own circuit?

Yes, you could use the same pin switch for turning on the lights as well as triggering the alarm.
