Hi, I'm new here and this is my first post.
I just recently started doing alarms and remote starts and was wondering if it's possible to safely install remote starters on manual transmission trucks/cars? Is there any make/model remotes specifically for manual transmissions?
Thanks for all your help.
Fred.
Hey Fred;
Most of the newer remote starter companies offer manual trasnmission safe remote starters. Some offer separate models while others offer the all in one package where the unit will remote start automatic, diesel and manual vehicles. We deal with about 3 maufacturer's that offer the all in one package and the unit price are the same for the all in one units.
There are some companies that charge more for the manual trasnmission remote starters over the automatic units. I prefer the all in one units as they are more versatile and are very easy to install + you only have to stock one kind of starters and not two or three

Jeff,
thanks for the response, I will check with my supplier if any of the companies he deals with has the option for manual transmissions. I was looking through the catalog but none of the companies seem to offer.
Do you know the names of companies that carry it?
here's the ones I deal with, Prestige, code alarm, design tech, directed electronics and omega.
Also I've been using audiovox/prestige alarms and remote starts. Any preference on the above mentioned for better quality and easy installs? Although I think they're all about the same as far installations. Correct me if I'm wrong, once again thanks.

Everyone has their own preference of brands that they would like to work on, but you are right about all being the same as far as the main connections. The biggest difference will be the options and if the unit will have relays built in for each option. The companies that I carry that have the all in one systems are Direct Start and Aladdin a-2000 systems. We used to buy the Command Start systems but opted to get the easier installation units because it saves on programming time and also installation time.
The above listed brands I have only installed automatic versions and I do not know if they offer a manual only starter unit. The Direct Start units I carry have a MSRP of $ 170.00 USD but usually can get it for $ 90.00 USD. The thing I like the best about these units is the fact that the brain of the starter is only about 3.5 " x 5" x 1.5 " and all the relays are internal. The only thing I don't like about them is the programming is not very user friendly and takes some getting used to.... but most of the remote starters are like that now.
If you need some more information give me a call or email me and we'll talk some more.
