Hi everyone, and thank you in advance for any replies...I appreciate it. I'm gearing up to install a Viper 3002 alarm and I have a question about the GEM and the Fax Document 1076. I have a 1999 Ford Ranger WITHOUT factory alarm and WITHOUT factory power locks. I bought a couple lock solenoids that I will install considering my alarm has onboard relays,s o that makes it pretty easy. What I'm wondering, confused about is if the "power drop" applies to my truck? Do I need to diode the door pins as shown in the diagram below? Thanks alot for the help!!

As far as I know the ranger is made by Mazda, it doesn't even have a GEM box, just wire normally, you should be able to control all the doors from the driver door trigger. Suck it and see, all that will happen if I'm wrong is that the alarm will go off every 35 minutes or so.

Hi, thanks for the reply. It fefinately DOES have a GEM, just not sure if it powers down to 5v after 40min. I think I will just wire it normally though, the GEM is easy enough to get to if I have to come back later and run diodes.

I would do the diodes...not to argue but I believe that Ford makes the Mazda B series pickup. The sticker in the door jam says that it's manufactured by Ford Company. Anyhow, I would definitely do the diodes since the GEM falls asleep. This will avoid false alarms and will give you better protection.

Apologies all round, it's complicated, our (United Kingdom) version is made by Mazda in Australia, your version is made in the US by Ford!
Also more important, YES to the diode diagram. To the first poster, I don't know where you got 5V from, the system shuts down after about 30 minutes then "wakes up" by sending 12V "pulses" around the different circuit to test the vehicle, if the alarm's door etc. triggers are very sensitive, Clifford products always suffered from that, then you get the alarm triggered, Ford, VW Fiat and Renault, all use this system and need the diode block.
