Hi guys,

I have a S-15 pick up truck, installed a Viper 5900 alarm system, and would like some help and suggestions on how can I place some type of triggering pin switch or ? so I can it trigger the alarm (was going to use the trunk trigger wire in the alarm) if someone attemps to open the tail gate, from what I understand so far (and what I see) the pin switch trigger has to be located beneath the bed area and sooner then later the switch will get corroded and stick and not work at all due to the weather, etc. Please help, thanks in advance!!!

I would use a ball-bearing tilt switch.

a tilt switch might not work the best for a tailgate. it would be in the ground state when closed. I have had pretty good luck with pin switches. If the room is there I put them behind the handle. So the alarm will go off as soon as the handle is pulled. It also helps keep the switch out of the weather.

Thanks for your suggestions buddholly and blanx218, anyone else can tune in and give more suggestions please......I will also check to see if there is room behind the handle itself......

Would some type of magnetic (like a slidding window trigger) be able to work? And if so, which wire in the alarm system should I use to use as the trigger wire?

Thanks again!!

I would use a magnetic switch. Radioshack has one - part no: 55016278

Thanks for replying KPierson, which wire should I connect it to on the Alarm module?

Connect one side to ground connect the other side to your trunk pin input.

Hey KPierson,

Correct me if im wrong, but the magnetic contacts Ive seen so far only has one wire connection, is there another available that has the two wire configuration you're suggesting?

Thanks again!!

The one I linked to has two wires. I've never seen one with only one wire.

It would have to have a metal frame I would think that would connect to ground when you mount it to only have one wire.
