I searched all the forums I could find and did not see an open topic on this subject. I just bought a 99 Town & Country and the vehicle has one of these Command Start 290I???  in it. I do not have a remote and none came with the vehicle. The previous owner did not have a remote that he could find either.

I went to the vehicle a few days after I bought it and the starter motor would not run by key. I may have accidently activated the ignition lock-out function on this or the Chrysler, OEM ignition kill function. I finally found the Command Sart module under the dash and am not sure if it was connected by the plug-in. I plugged it in anyway.

I tested the starter motor by jumper and it would turn with the key off but not turn with the key on. tomorrow, I will test the neutral lock-out switch to make sure that is not the cause. I am not sure if the factory system is preventing ignition or it is the Command Start or a switch
somewhere. All other functions of the vehicle work so it is not a fusible link or bad solenoid/starter (since I can jump the starter with the key off but not with the key on).

I would like to buy at least one remote for this 290I if anyone knows where they can be had. Could you, would any of you send me a manual for the 290I? I certainly will appreciate it. I think this unit has an ignition lock-out feature. I do not know if there is a manual switch to take the unit off-line. and by the way, since I am a newbie, I could not access the downloads page. also, does anyone know an experienced tech near SFBay area who can figure this out?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Ok, apparently the connector coming loose could have been the cause of not starting. The control module had not been secured to anything. I found the command module under some dash panels. After disconnecting battery and adequately re-routing some wires, the van started correctly. Now I would like to find a remote for this unit. does anyone have one spare or orphan?

If I don't find one I may just replace the whole unit with an North American manufactured one that will do what I want it to do. Buy American products made in the US! One of the reasons we are in such financial trouble is that manufacturing (a wealth-producing industry like car manufacturing) has been farmed out to save labor pennies.

Anyone have an orphaned remote for this 290I Command Start?
