some type of security

So I just bought a car that would not start I finally found a black box under the dash that was connected to the starter wire as well as some others. I disconnected it from the starter wire and I got the car running. I am now trying to install a radio and I am not getting any power my question is does any one know if this box I found could be messing it up. The box had NPTU-1 PASS TIME V3.0 on it. I completely took the box out and I cant find that there are any wires that are not connected as they should be. The car is an 01 grand am if you need any other info or if this should be in a different area please let me know. Any help is appriciated.

There should be a blue wire and a purple wire coming out of the past time. Both of these wires should be connected the same color wire of the vehicle. Simply reconnect the like color wires of the vehicle.

I have done that, that is how I got the car to start. Are there any other wires that may have been disconnected that I may be overlooking somewhere. And what is this Pass Time thing

Just read my first post I need to be a little more clear, I can start the car I am not getting power to the radio and I was thinking the Pass time device might be the cause of this

The only wire that should have been cut was the starter wire. That device is used by finance companies. If a buyer has less than good credit, the device is installed and the buyer has to go to the finance company to pay their monthly note. At that time a code is entered to allow it to keep starting for the next 30 days, when you are past time to pay your note, the car will no longer start.

What car, make and model please and are we talking about radio memory or switched ACC? Methinks a fuse check is called for.

It is an 01 Pontiac Grand Am I have checked all fuses under hood and at the drivers side door. I have found that the orange wire going to the radio should have constant power, mine does not however the orange going to the hazard light switch does have power. Not sure what you are asking about radio memory or switched ACC

If the cigarette lighter feed is constant, i.e. stays live when ignition is turned off, that's the memory lead. You should also have a yellow which is switched when ACC is selected via the ignition key.
Re-rout the orange (you might have a spare constant terminal) from the fuse box via a 10amp fuse.

Yes my cigarette lighter feed is constant so I was thinking about splicing into it but what about the yellow because I am not getting power to it either even when the car is started

Read what I just posted about a separate fused feed, ignore the existing orange unless you want to trace it back to the fuse box and find the break or the fuse that "looked OK" but you didn't test for continuity with a meter...doh.

2 things:

1. An 01 Grand Am doesn't have a +12V IGN turn on for the radio. Its turned off and on through the 5V data line.

2. Check the fuses under the hood. There is a fuse there that is labeled radio/something I  dont remeber but might be the issue with your +12V constant
