rs on a carburated engine

Hey, got a guy with an 85 chevy silverado. i've googled but havent really found anyone say "this" is how you do it. just a bunch of random people throwing ideas out there. anyone have a "proper" or best way to do it that they've used many times?

Haven't done it myself hopefully someone will jump in who has, but the idea is to use a trunk release solenoid attached to the throttle linkage under hood, or pedal if you think it will be safer. Take great care routing wires in these areas, because if the wiring were to melt down or short out you may have an unsafe driving condition!

Generally you want a remote start with a pulse (double pulse would be nice if the car isnt tuned perfectly) before start wire. The wire pulses and the solenoid pulls the throttle open, setting the choke and squirting enough gas in to get it running. The pulse stops and the solenoid is open and free to move with the pedal, returning the throttle to its idle position.

Obviously a tach signal is vital in this application also! Do not even try voltage sense in this application.

X 2 with racer, of course then you have to assume that a 26 year old engine will then start on the button! Good luck.

A good system to try is the Audiovox/Pursuit series. They have all of the outputs, though a pulse timer may be required to adjust the solenoid perfectly. Check out DEI's line. They have a few good pieces i have used for other things like window roll down etc. Takes a single pulse and turns it into various other selectable outputs. Anything from double pulse, to latched relay, to variable timed output (2-80 seconds).

good stuff, thanks. i was thinking something along the lines of a solenoid too. never owned a carb motor. or know much about them. could the owner simply pump the pedal a couple times before leaving the truck so the gas and choke are preset for the next time he tries to rs?

That sounds like a bad idea to me, and besides any fuel squirted down in the engine would evaporate by the next day. Best bet is to use the aux channel to activate the solenoid so you can hit it a few times before starting if needed, or not at all in warm weather.
