Hi,
i wonder if anyone can help me with the following problems with my viper 991 install in a uk ford escort 1997.
1. I have the alarm installed but cant get the alarm to flash the headlights
2. I cant get the alarm to unlock or lock the doors
3. the door trigger keeps saying 'door open' when alarm is 'ARMED'
any help appreciated

1) You will need a relay to flash the headlights.
2) 2 relays for the locks. Alarm lock output needs current boost.
3) You may have wired the alarm's purple instead of green to the car or you haven't gone to the right wire on the fuse box and factory dome light delay is coming up on your remote.

OK you need to take this to a pro and have it properly installed. The correct door trigger is BROWN / red under side of fuse box, test. You should never have used the purple wire, read the instructions. You also don't appear to have much experience with your vehicle which rather worries me. The only reason I answered your query was the SPURS part of your name!
Unfortunately I haven't worked on one of these for about 10 years, in Jersey on a Cosworth.

But what worries me the most is that your unit is a Python 991 not a Viper (equivalent to Viper 5901).

its a viper 5702..or python 991.
it had only ever been connected to RED / brown drivers door switch pin
wire.the passenger colour is RED / green.
i can get alarm to function and go off but door switch is the main problem i that i wont trigger when open all the time.
Thanks for you help.

the RED / brown door pin switch should be connected to the green input trigger on the alarm.
is there anything else i need to do to the RED / brown door pin wire or is that it.
do i need to change any setings on alarm
thanks for any replies.
ps RED / brown door pin wire has diode on it soldered.

Don't connect to the door switches on that vehicle, the built-in dome light delay will bugger you up, as I said there's a wire on the underside left of the fusebox that reads NEG when the doors are open, shuts down immediately the doors are closed, that's the one you want. Remote hatch opening is also dead easy if you have the factory hatch release adjacent to the window switches in the centre, all in all a very easy car to do. Even the by-pass for remote start is easy.

thank you very much for your help, will look again this weekend.
i got the escort haynes manual so will look at wiring diagram for the door dome relay.. fuse box is hanging down so its easy to get to.
as you said, i thought it would be easy too but the door pin switch has been the main problem.
i Had a laserline alarm that gave up the ghost a month ago and thought just follow that.ha ha.. didn't think about relays and stuff.

Where did you get the alarm from, I didn't even think they were on sale in the UK.
Actually, Laserline originally gave up the ghost in 1998!

laserline was ok til it was MOT'd in the garage and they ripped it up.
I was not happy because it did everything i wanted it to do, doors, windows etc. it was professional installed which is why i followed the same wires. i removed the laserline a few eeks ago.
viper / python came from Ebay..was cheap as a basic TOAD alarm for £89

i liked the pager facilty , not bothered about the remote start so it was supposed to be a very very very simple case of connecting a few wires up.

It was down to the MOT people to repair it.
Toad comes from the same factory as Viper, Hornet, Python etc. but it's vastly inferior.
Fleabay? Good luck and no guarantee. When it goes on sale in the UK it will have a WHOLESALE price of about £200!

Unless it's the latest spec, the remote with the pager will last about 6 months. Already superseded about 2 years ago by the 5902/992.

Got to be the easiest window close going, as long as it's a DEI 529t or 530t.
Comparing Microscan and Laserline POS is like saying a Proton is as good as a BMW!

also how do i wire the relay for light flashing to work. i have everything ready to go but not 100% sure which wire to connect to which pin on relay.
i do have a relay diagram but it looks wrong.

You need someone more experienced to test for you, again if you have to ask about polarity setting on the indicator output or relay when all you need are a pair of diodes then should you be attempting this?

Everything works apart from the door pin and light flash.
I was asking advice on the correct pin configuration.
i already have pair of diodes on light flash output.
No i am not 100% sure thats why i posted the request on here. i thought that was the point of this forum.
