My wife bought a 2010 Toyota RAV4 Sport 4WD. When she got home, we found out that it had a Viper 5301 installed which the seller failed to mention.
We tried locking and unlocking the vehicle using the remotes but the remotes give a tone (which I assume to be an error tone).
I tried pairing the remote with the installed system by following steps which included pressing the button in the control center. Unfortunately, it was unsuccessful. I also noticed that the LED in the control center doesn't light up.
We had an AstroStart system in another car and the toggle switch was below the kickpanel. However, I checked this installation and I can't find it.
I assume that the system was disabled using the toggle switch.
1. Is my assumption correct?
2. If so, where do you think I can find the toggle switch?
Thanks a lot for any help.

I would start by going to the download section of this site for the 5301 Install manual and the Owners manual. There are a number of reasons you could be getting the error tone.
As for finding the toggle switch, either start at the ignition switch wires, find where the unit is spliced into those wires, and follow them back to the brain, or follow the wire from the antenna, (control center), back to the brain. You should be able to find the toggle switch on the brain. Should be a two wire black plug.
Could be the remotes are on a different car. The remotes will work on two seprate cars. Page 19 of the Owners manual explains how to change from Car 1 to Car 2 or vice versa. Try changing the remote car mode and see if the brain respondes. Are the remotes one way or two way? ------------- When all else fails, Read the Instructions

I don't believe you can completely disable the system through the valet switch.
You're best bet would be to find the brain, make sure it is still there, and that it is receiving power. As mentioned above, if the brain is still there AND it has power and ground, then try to pair the remotes you have to the brain (assuming they match).
The seller might not have mentioned it because it might not work!

I downloaded the owner's and installation manual for the 5301.
I also tried changing Car 1 to 2 and vice versa but still to no avail. I have a 2-way and a 1-way remote. What I noticed is that if I check the "lock status" and it returned "unlocked" despite it being locked. Other than that, nothing seems to work.
I will try to remove the kick panel to find out where the toggle switch is.
Thanks!

That's what I am gonna do. I'm crossing my fingers and hope things are in working order.
Thanks.

I finally got the chance to take a good look at the installed control module.
Here are some of the photos:
The photo below shows certain open ports. There is a pink wire that is loose which is part of the wire coming from the control center. I tried to check out the installation instructions but can't find the answer as to where it is supposed to go.
After checking it out and taking photos, I slipped the control center under the lower instrument panel. When I tried using the 2-way remote I was amazed that it worked, however, in a strange manner. Below is a video of it. Please click to play.
Does anybody have any idea why this is happening?
Thanks.

The only thin gauge Pink wire on the Viper 5301 comes from the Remote start auxiliary output, 5-pin connector, Pin 4 PINK and is a (-) 200mA IGNITION 1 OUTPUT.
If can be used for many things. Your 2010 RAV4 has two Ignition wires, two Starter wires and one Accessory wire. My guess is that the Viper is programmed for Starter 2 ( Menu 3, Item 8, Option 3 ) and the heavy Pink/White wire from H3/6 is connected to the RAV4's Starter2 wire. That would mean that the Pink wire controls a relay that powers Ignition2.
The relay mounted on top of the Viper looks to be an interrupt relay controlled by the Vipers ARM output. Maybe AutoHeadlights?
The Fortin module is for bypassing the cars transponder during remote start.
The fact that moving it around caused the symptoms to change seems to indicate poor connections. Might be best to ensure all the Viper connectors are fully seated and actually follow the wires to the steering column and make a diagram of the connections. ------------- Soldering is fun!

Thanks a lot for your inputs kreg357.
Have you seen the video?

Yes, watched the video. Looks like the system is set for double pulse Unlock ( first pulse unlocks the drivers door, second pulse gets the rest ). Sorry, not familiar with Vipers & the 2 way remotes and their tones & responses.

I am not able to view the video, so I don't know what is happening.
Is it possible the you need a two presses of the remote start button to activate the remote start.
Try pressing the remote start button until the amber light on top blinks twice, release it then press it again quickly until the amber light on top blinks once, then release. Try it a few times as it is a timing thing of the buttons. This might get the remote start to work. Make sure the hood is down. ------------- When all else fails, Read the Instructions

Finally, I found a solution on this post: https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp?tid=119408&tpn=1&PN=1.
I reset the module by removing the 15amp fuse and left it for a minute. After inserting it back, everything functioned normally.
Thanks a lot for all the help and for the different contributions.
