hi guys, some paperwork on the 2001 tarus indicates that you have to remove the ignition tumbler to remove the lower steering shroud. just wondering if this is the only access to the rx and tx transponder wires,or do they come down the column far enough without removing the lower shroud.

also does the waking up of the gem modulle for the locks to work while running, apply to this particular car.

thank you in advance

Popping out the ignition cylinder is no big deal.  Here is a picture and info from Bulldog Security :  https://www.bulldogsecurity.com/diagrams/Images.asp?ImageID=298&link=Bulldog

The TX wire is BROWN / Orange and the RX wire is RED / Black.  You can find them about 8 inches down the column from the ignition switch in a white connector.  Those colors are correct for the switch side of that connector but the vehicle side might be different.

It is not that hard to remove the key barrel to remove the lower shroud. My experience with my 2000 taurus.  I believe you could find the rx and tx wires down further. As I recall GREEN / WHITE & ORANGE / White?? something like that.  There were two wires the exact same color as the tx and rx only a bit thicker gauge. Guess which two I grabbed first?
