python 991 hyundai genesis

Went with my first DEI product today and I have to say I'm impressed. Vehicle is a 2009 Hyundai Genesis with Smart Key, and I used a DBALL with the Python 991.

Wiring was a snap and everything was right where Directed said it should be. The DBALL module programmed easily (software 401.HYUNDAI1 v1.14)and the doors lock and unlock, the trunk pops and alarm chirps. But it wouldn't start. It gives 7 light flashes indicating it's in manual mode but I can't get it into programming mode. I open the door, turn ign on and off and hold the control button, but I get no chirps and no menu options.

I did NOT connect the toggle switch originally, but it didn't seem to make a difference when I did try it.

I know I have to program it for automatic transmission, but if I can't get the programming to work, I don't know what to do next. I sifted through some Python 991 posts and wonder if there ought to be another wire grounded (handbrake?), but the instructions (downloaded here) say that it isn't necessary for D2D.

Any ideas why I can't get to the programming mode?

Try turning the ignition on and leave it on, then do your control button sequence.  See if that gets you into menus.

I had already tried that, but at your suggestion I tried it again and still no joy.

I can put it into and out of valet mode, but I can't seem to access programming. Could a new unit be locked and need a bitwriter?

Keep in mind, right now the toggle switch is not plugged in.

Also, I was working off of an older wiring diagram so I missed the EIPS fail output wire. I believe that only honks the horn so that shouldn't cause it not to go into programming mode, should it?

Ok, now I'm not as impressed.

The doors lock and unlock and the alarm sets and turns off. But when I try to deliberately set it off by reaching in through an open window and opening the door or hood from the inside only the FACTORY alarm sounds. It appears the DBALL doesn't monitor the doors and hood like it says it does.

That might explain why it won't enter programming mode. How can it if it doesn't know if a door is open.

Does anyone with DEI knowledge have any experience with this? Do I have to tie in the door, trunk, and hood pins directly to the Python?

Somebody must have done one of these besides me.

Well, the honeymoon's completely over on this one.

First, the supplier called DEI and asked them what may be wrong. Their reply? Sometimes D2D doesn't work. Too bad they don't print that in their instructions--I would have avoided their products. The only reason I went with the DBALL and the Python is that it appeared to be a real easy install.

Since they suggested a reflash I took it to a nearby dealer who verified the correct program was in there, but reflashed it. Now, it does recognize the door trigger so I can enter programming and change it to automatic transmission. But 8 light flashes later its asking for the toggle switch to be on. Install the toggle and still "remote start error". A quick check of these forums and it turns out the neutral safety wire has to be grounded. Ground that and Erueka! It says it starts! Except that ITS NOT RUNNING! No starter crank, no ignition or accessory circuits active--just a remote that thinks the car is running.

Seems that the best advice I got today was from the installer who reflashed the DBALL. He never trusts D2D. He always hardwires. Looks like I might have no option. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a 2009 Hyundai Genesis sedan?
