I hope I am following all rules and protocols here - I have searched and searched, and found no answers.
Do I need an xpresskit in a 2003 toyota tacoma double cab with factory solid metal key (no chip) and factory keyless entry when installing a viper 5901 keyless entry/alarm/remote start?
I will get it installed professionally, but I need to know to prepare for install costs. No one seems to know definitively, and there is nothing on the internet with such key words besides a post on here which delved more specifically into how to install said alarm in said truck, which I won't do myself. Nothing about xpresskit, etc.
Searching Viper's website, it doesn't allow Tacoma years to go back any further than 2005, and I have gotten different answers from authorized dealers (Viper's suggested resources).
Many thanks

Remove parts to gain access to ignition switch. If it has a plastic cowl round it with wires coming off then yes, or try to hotwire it without the key near the ignition, if you can then no by-pass required.

DEI doesn't list one, A/Vox says yes, you'll just have to do as above or trust your installer.

thanks howie II. i don't know how to do what you're suggesting - i've only installed a couple of head units and a camera, and the rest is sort of a mystery to me. but thanks for checking up on that.

thanks mike m2. my guess is that the older ones don't need a kit b/c viper's website doesn't go back further than 2005. that is, of course, a total assumption. but thanks very much for the reply.

Actually Viper's TRADE website does go back a lot further, but then what do I know? As Mike knows only too well I don't even know what a Taco is!
They don't sell the bigger stuff in Europe, I have to Wiki half the queries here just to see if the damn thing looks like anything like its Euro cousins. e.g. Buick Regal = Vauxhall/Opel Insignia.
Come to think of all all cars and light vans HAD to have OEM immobilisers by 1/1/97. So it's much simpler here.
You can't even take a chance on Ford Fiestas and Foci, the hot UK Focus, ST and Cosworth had Volvo ignition systems as did Land Rovers.
I've done RS on one F150 and one RAM, now ask how many BMW's and smaller Toyotas.
