I recently installed an Avital 4103 remote start system on my 2004 Chevy Colorado. When I press the lock button on the transmitter, the doors lock and the ignition turns on as if the remote start is activating. The starter never actually cranks, but the ignition turns on. The unlock and remote start button both function normally. I tried deleting and re-learning the remotes and restoring the default settings, but the problem is still there. I am completely dumbfounded as to why the ignition would turn on when the lock button is pressed. Is there some programming option that may be selected that I overlooked?
I must admit, when I installed the system, I got a little impatient and programmed the remotes so I could try out the remote start before I connected the door lock wire. Could this have anything to do with the problem?

I thought perhaps I tapped the wrong light blue wire coming from the drivers door for the door lock, so I disconnected the lock wire from the remote start module. With the lock wire disconnected, the doors no longer lock, but the ignition still turns on. I put a multimeter onto the truck's light blue (-) lock wire. It reads about 10V constant and dips to around 8V when the lock button is pressed.

What did you use to interface with the Colorado's anti-theft system?
Also, where is the light GREEN / WHITE Avital wire connected? That wire also makes a pulse when locking the doors.

I used the Xpresskit PLJX inferface to bypass the passlock. I did not hook up the WHITE/ green alarm wire (just taped the end).

Are there any other ideas? Any other wires that send a pulse when the door lock is pressed?

If i remember correctly, the 4103 comes programmed for a single pulse, which you need to change to 3 pulse start. This way it will take 3 presses of lock.

Is there any way to use the auxillary output on an Avital 4103 to turn on the defrost in a 2004 Chevy Colorado. My wife's Impala has factory remote start which automatically kicks on the defrost at full blast when the remote start is activiated. Is there any way to do something similar with the 4103 I just installed in my Colorado?

In regards to the lock issue, I thought the 3-pulse thing only came into play if you are using the activition input (wht/blue) to activate the remote start using your factory keyless entry transmitters. I am using the avital transmitters, so I did not hook up the wht-blue wire.

I tried changing the activiation input to a 3-pulse start, but the ignition still turns on when I press the lock once. I did notice that the doors only lock the first time I press the lock button. When I press the lock button multiple times in a row, the doors only lock the first time the button is pressed. I tried pressing the unlock button multiple times, and every time the unlock is pressed, the door locks respond. Any ideas?

The remotes should have been preprogrammed so i'm not sure why you would have changed it. In any case, autolearn the remotes to see if that's the problem. Are you sure nothing is connected to the WHITE/ blue activation wire?
Key on
press/release/hold the valet button
Press the lock button on the remote
release button and turn off key
Now the remotes are on the original setting.
You still have a bypass issue to deal with and this is why the truck won't crank... ------------- Mike M2
