removing alarm system from 2000 tahoe

I recently bought a 2000 Tahoe and it has an autopage alarm system on it. The guy gave me a remote and said it just needed a battery. Of course i put a battery in it and the remote is broken it just beeps and the screen never turns on. The remote is a xt-72 which from what ive found is a remote for the rs-520

I dont want to spend $100 on a new remote so Id rather just remove the alarm system and go back to stock. My question is can I remove this system just by cutting the wires coming out of the aftermarket system that are spliced into my stock wiring harness?(obviously capping the bare ends of the exposed wires. Or are there wires that are cut out of the stock wiring and re routed to somewhere else? Ive never installed an alarm system so i dont know what all it consists of

Nothing wrong with what you suggested though there might be a relay controlling starter cut.
If so just cut away from the two ends of the cut starter wire and rejoin, via soldering.

If it were my car and I didn't want the alarm anymore, I'd probably want to do a nice clean complete removal and put the car back 100% to stock.

However, that's because I install these things all day and it wouldn't take me too long to do......in your case you might be there a while or have to pay for it, so I could totally understand looking for something easier.

If you feel that the installation is good and reliable, and that the only problem is your bad remote, I would just remove all fuses going to the alarm brain and leave it at that.

By the way, there are are probably two wires in your Tahoe that are interrupted by the alarm installation: Starter, and Passlock (assuming you have a remote starter too). There's likely to be a separate module that's connected to the car's Passlock II anti-theft system, and there's a yellow wire that they cut in half and pass through the module.

So, if you find the bypass module and just unplug it, the car now has a "broken" Passlock wire and won't start even with the key.

Also, by just removing the fuses, you still keep the option of buying the $100 remote in the future, if you change your mind. You might even come across a used one somewhere at a better price.

Alright thanks for the responses guys, The thing is I want to have the keyless entry from the stock system. I hate unlocking the doors with the key. I cant use a factory remote with the aftermarket system hooked up still can i?

Yes you can still use the factory remote.

oh alright, well ill probably just leave it alone then. I figured the aftermarket system would disable the factory one

In fact Chris is right, for another reason, removing it might affect the locking system.
