My door trigger measures 12v+ when the door is closed.  When the door is opened, the meter measures 0 volts.

The vehicle database says it is a negative trigger.  Several others have told me that it is a positive trigger.   If I hook up the wrong polarity wire from my alarm system, will it smoke, or just not work correctly?

1997 GMC Sierra 1 Ton 4 door crew cab pickup

I have isolated the purple (or violet) wire at the back of the headlight switch, and that is what I am using as a test for the door trigger.

One other concern, this vehicle has a dome light override switch.  Will this affect the arming/disarming of the alarm?

this should take care of it for you......

Dome Light PURPLE (-) 4 PIN BLACK CONN. IN DR. KICK PANEL *

* PURPLE (-) Wire Also Located At Headlight Switch. WHITE (-) Wire At Courtesy Light Can Also Be Used But Will Not Trigger Alarm If Dome Lamp Override Switch Is Turned On
