Agreed to install Bulldog 500 RS in 04 Durango for friend this past weekend. Hate Bulldog starters by the way!   Installed and everything worked great with xk532 bypass until......my buddy stopped and started three times in a row in about 2 minutes. Smoke from under dash yikes!!!   left it for the night and took a look this morning. This auto temp control and thought I hooked 3rd accessory which was supposed to be dark blue. I looked at this wire 4 times and tested it to have 12v + when key cycled forward. I actually hooked blue green (never saw thin green stripe) that ran to control module under steering wheel white and yellow plug. Touched wire and click in the dash could be heard and dash illumination came on. I immediately unhooked battery. I founnd that wire had heated and melted along the harness to the kick panel. no damage to any other wires. I replaced this wire and reconnected battery. Dash lights stayed on, no guages work, radio won't light up, no blinkers, lock unlock, horn, car won't shift from park without disconnecting battery first, but car runs. Owner says that the instrument cluster which controls all of the stuff I listed had been looked at many times by dealer and he actually believed there was a recall on this. He also says that dash lights flicker with radio lights weekly while driving. Scanner tool confirmed code u1411 ( repairpal.com/got-code-u1411-but-doesnt-make-sense-757) which is the instrument cluster. Taking to dealer tomorrow. This sux. Lesson learned. check all wires 10 times, and don't work on vehicles that electrical issues to begin with. Sorry for the novel.

Update.....Dealership says that the instrument cluster has shorted out. Going to get a used one from a salvage yard today to see if that fixes the problems. Fingers crossed!!!
