hey guys I purchased an Avital 4103LXL and an xpresskit pkumux bypass module for my 2009 chev impala and I was planning to do the install myself. I have a copy of the car wiring diagram (Directwire 2.0 vehicle information) for the 09 impala. However, since this is my first attempt at this, I do have a few questions. First, in the Avital installation guide under heavy guage relay wiring diagram, it shows a purple (+) output to starter circuit wire. I am confused as to where to connect this wire because the impala wiring diagram shows a (+) purple starter wire at the starter or under hood fuse box but in brackets it says (for starter kill only). It also shows a second starter, white (resistor code), WHITE/ black (5V reference) which is +9.6K ohms located at the ignition switch or BCM. Second, I have the pkumux install "D" wiring diagram for GM vehicles equipped with the GM Pass-key 3 plus, now here is where it gets a little confusing! The bypass mod. has a 12 pin harness with 4 pins unused, which I'm ok with, the 4103 has a 4 pin satelite harness which has a blue (-) status output wire, I think this wire connects to the Input blue/white (-) To ground when running output (status) wire in the 12 pin harness. Am I right so far? Now the 12 pin harness has a violet (+) starter input wire which connects to the remote start. The 4 pin harness on the remote start has a purple (-) starter output wire, to me the polarity is not right, so where do I attatch the violet wire from the 12 pin harness? Also there is a Data wire shown as coming from a green or black connector this wire needs to be cut and diverted through the bypass module on it's way to the BCM. The diagram I have does not show a colour for this Data wire, how can I identify it?

The 4103 Purple Starter wire will only be connected to the PKUMUX as shown on the Type D install diagram.
Yes, connect the 4103 Blue (-) Status Output wire to the PKUMUX Blue/White GWR wire.
You will not need / use the 4103 (-) Starter wire.
The Data wire shown at Pin 5 is White. You should be able to match and verify it by its' position on the connector in relationship to the Ignition wire at Pin 3 and the Accessory wire at Pin 4. ( According to info from DEI PKUMUX ).
According to iDatalink that 6 Pin connector has this layout : Passlock ( Data ) Pin 5 White (+) Ignition connector Accessory (PK3+) Pin 3 Brown (+) Ignition connector Ignition Pin 1 Pink (+) Ignition connector
Test with a DMM to be sure. ------------- Soldering is fun!

ok I'm still a little confused here! The 4103 Purple starter wire refered to.... is this the heavy gauge Purple wire from pin # 2 in the 6 pin heavy gauge relay interface harness? In the installation guide it says to connect it to the starter wire. I guess to me it just doesn't look right, a heavy wire like that being connected to such a small gauge wire leading into the PKUMUX.
Up till now I have not looked under the dash on the Chev. I've just been trying to get my head around the wiring, trying to get a picture in my head of how it goes together. The iDatalink layout for the 6 pin connector appears to be a little different than the one shown on the PKUNUX Install type "D" sheet. My sheet shows the #1 pin empty, #2 Pin + 12V Constant going to the BCM, #3 Ignition, #4 Accessory, #5 Data and #6 5V Ref.
If when I begin the installation and if I find that pink wire at #1, can I use it and/or any of #1, 2,or 3 Pins to supply the (+) 30 A high current 12V input for the 4103 Heavy gauge relay harness Pins 4 and 6? Thank you again!

the new domestic vehicles are multiplex systems, the wiring size has been reduced since heavy gauge is not needed

Yes, you will connect the heavy gauge Purple Starter wire from the 4193 to a thin gauge wire on the bypass module.
As Ted pointed out, a lot of the newer vehicles use thin wires at the igntion switch. Because of this, the current outputs of the 4103 are reduced, meaning the current input requirements are also reduced. If you use the (-) Parking Light wire, you should be able to fuse down those 30 Amp 4103 input fuses to 10 Amp. Just split up the 4103 power wires between the available vehicle supply wires. This info from DEI : 12volts RED / white (x4) (10A or 15A each) (+) BCM, black plug, pins 1, 2, 3, and 4 Here is a link to the DEI info : https://www.readyremote.com/main.asp?make=Chevrolet&model=HHR You can alway go directly to the battery if you feel the need.
Use your DMM to test for the Igntion & Accessory wires on the 6 Pin Main Ignition connector at the ignition switch. While Fortin ( another bypass manufacturer) does not give pin numbers, the colors are listed as Pink, Brown and White. ------------- Soldering is fun!
