I am installing a Viper 5301 with the (18 terminal plug, not two 5s and a 7) in a 2004 Toyota Camry with the four cylinder motor. The camry has no immobilizer. I have installed several remote starts but this one seems to be very confusing with the dual ignition and dual starter wires.
I know what wires are what in the car, but the directions on the Viper are confusing
If someone would be able to make me a chart (specifically of the 8 pin connector) as to what wires are used and or where they go in simple terms that would be very helpful. I do not know what a flex relay is as there is no mention of it in my install manual..
I can also post pictures or be reached at 804-339-2984 if it will help..
The car is apart and i'm trying to get it done..
Thank you!
Bill

That Camry has two Ignition and two Starter wires. The Viper can directly handle the two Ignitions and Starter1. H3/1 PINK (+) IGNITION 1 INPUT/OUTPUT BLACK/ Red @ ignition harness H3/2 RED / WHITE FLEX RELAY +12V INPUT WHITE/ Red H3/3 ORANGE (+) ACCESSORY OUTPUT Blue/Red H3/4 VIOLET (+) STARTER OUTPUT (CAR SIDE) BLACK/ White H3/5 RED IGNITION 1 +12V INPUT WHITE/ Red H3/6 PINK/WHITE (30) FLEX RELAY OUTPUT BLACK / YELLOW *** Factory Default is Ignition2 ( Menu3, Item8 ) H3/7 PINK/BLACK (87a) FLEX RELAY INPUT Not Used H3/8 RED / BLACK ACC/STARTER RELAY +12V INPUT WHITE/ Red
You will need an extra 30/40A SPDT relay and 20 Amp fuse for the Camrys' Starter2. Wire as follows :
Relay Pin 86 and 87 to +12V constant thru 20 Amp fuse Relay Pin 85 to Viper H2/13 Purple (-) 200mA Second Starter Output Relay Pin 30 to Camry Second Starter BLACK / YELLOW (+) @ ignition harness Relay Pin 87A not used - insulate ------------- Soldering is fun!

I have several 20/30a spdt relays, are these not rated high enough? If its fused at 20 amp why the higher rating on the relay? Sorry if its a silly question..
Thank you!

Your 20/30 Amp relays will be OK. The 30/40 Amp are the more commonly available ones. If the Camrys' Starter2 wire is thin gauge, you can fuse accordingly.

IIt is 18 or 20 gauge..Thank you very much. It would also be helpful if I had the correct directions, the ones I have are for the 5301 with the two 5 pin plugs and additional 7 pin instead of the 18 pin all in one plug...I'm going to search for the correct instructions to insure I wire correctly..I would think the colors are the same but need to make sure..
I'm sure Ill have more questions so please check back if you don't mind...I might have something for you if you want it, as a gift for helping..PM me when you get a chance please..

Ok, I must be an idiot...I have downloaded all the manuals and none of them have the 18 pin connector?! I purchased a refurbed 5301, do you know what I have?? All the other connections seem to fit the 5301 and be color appropriate...did they modify the unit on refurb? There are no identifying marks or model number on the base unit, I even opened it and didnt find one..
Thoughts or links welcome!!

While there are differences between them ( the 5701 has alarm features ) this 5701 guide should help :

Actually that appears to be Exactly what I have! I have the Viper sticker and the same engraved CPU on the right side.. Would they have just put a 5701 n for the 5301 refurb unit? All the connections appear to be the exact same as the manual you linked...

Unless they made a mistake, your 5301 should only be a remote start / keyless entry only unit. While the harnesses might be the same, I doubt that the alarm functions and siren output work. ------------- Soldering is fun!

Anyone know what wire the factory Toyota 'chirp' is when locking and unlocking? And can this be used with the pulsed negative horn output on the viper? I would much rather use that than the horn. No factory alarm if that helps..
Thank you!

Also since I do not have the factory alarm, is there anyway to use the door sense input or trunk pin input to trigger an alert to be sent to the remote so at least I know if someone opens a door or the trunk even if it doesnt sound any alarm?
Just thinking ahead...

And one (hopefully last install issue, there are two Blk/Orange wires in the grey connector to the right of the steering column. How do you test to determine which one is the tach wire?
Thank you

Tach signals are AC. Set your DMM to 20V AC, Black lead to chassis ground & Red lead to suspect wire. Signal should be between 0.5V and 6V AC and rise with RPM's.

The setup is working, I figured I would try the virtual tach and it works well. Do you see any reason or preference for the wired tach?
Any ideas on the Toyota chirp wire?
Thanks,

Two remaining issues...
1. Toyota chirp wire ?
and
2. Trunk release keeps blowing fuse, I have only gone to 15 amp so not sure if its a higher current circuit?
Trunk is wired as follows
Constant 12v feeding 2 relays (one for ignition 2 as in beginning of post and one for the trunk release) on 86 & 87 from ignition 12v constant
85- H1/12 RED / White
30- WHITE/ Blue Trunk wire in D/s kick panel
When WHITE/ Blue is disconnected from 30 on relay fuse doesnt blow and relay clicks..
Factory remote trunk release continues to work as normal..
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Bill

Trunk release is a 5 Wire Reverse setup, not a straight positive. Use this diagram to wire-up the SPDT relay :

Tach mode is more reliable in cold climates, so depending on where you are in VA, Virtual Tach might be OK. Another place to try for a tach signal on Toyota's is at Pin 9 of the OBD2 diagnostic connector. Usually a Black wire.
Haven't heard of anyone having luck tapping into the vehicles' tone chip. ------------- Soldering is fun!

With that hook up (I assume the positive diagram) will the factory trunk release still work from a factory remote? Just curious..
Thank you

Yes the Factory Trunk release will still operate normally. With a SPDT relay, when not energized, Pin 30 is connected to Pin 87A. That makes the cars cut trunk release wire "normally" connected and the Factory release signal gets thru.
Your Viper H1/1 RED / White (-) 200mA Trunk release wire is a negative pulse, so use the top diagram.

Ok when hooked up as per + diagram I get factory remote working for trunk, but not viper. Upon further investigation, RED / white output on viper trunk release is outputing .6v not 12 volts..did I fry it? Or was it not ever working? It seems as if when I cut the trunk release wire WHITE/ Blue and put 12 volts to the rear circuit it triggers trunk release, when I put 12v to the circuit side it blows a fuse...Seems as if a diode would be better suited..however if the RED / white output is not putting out 12v then something is amiss..

Nevermind I'm a complete jackleg..When hooked up as a negative circuit it works just fine...a 2 second delay but works as prescribed..
Thank you so much for your patience..

The top diagram should work. The Vipers (-) trunk release output on Pin 85 will energize the relay ( assuming a constant +12v on Pin 86 ).
To test the Vipers H1/1 trunk release output, set the DMM to 20V DC. Connect the Red lead to +12V constant and the Black lead to the Viper H1/1 RED / White (not connected) wire. When it outputs a trunk release signal the DMM should go to +12V. ------------- Soldering is fun!

Is there anyplace to leave you feedback etc? And the offer still stands on the pkall..you saved me a tremendous amount of time and heartache, pm me with your address and I will ship it to you tomorrow...

Kreg, not sure if you got my PM, I sent that item out to you and you should have it by now..just checking to make sure it got there ok..
Also, one odd behavior out of this system...when I use the viper remote all works as it should. when I unlock the car with factory remote about 30 seconds later it relocks by itself...
Is this a setting of some sort? I cant find anything on it other that auto relock but I didnt hook any of that up wiring wise and its odd to me it only happens when I use the toyota key fob..
Just curious.
Thank you!

that is the auto-relock that is standard on all OEM keyless entry modules.
you can turn off the auto relock feature. I did it for my sisters toyota camry xle-V6. i forgot what i had to do, but you can ask for the instructions from any toyota dealer. That's where i got mine from.

Hi Bill,
Got the PM, thanks. Mail might be slow due to the Holidays.
The auto re-lock thing sounds like the normal function of the Camry itself. Don't think it has anything to do with the R/S install. Check the Camry Owners Manual to see if that function is listed. Did a search and found a few forums that describe this re-lock as a normal safety function of the Camry. The Camry can also be programmed to 3 different door lock scenarios.
