I am a lawyer in Prince George, British Columbia. I act for a fellow whose 2009 Chevrolet Impala was stolen. His insurer is, among other things, relying on an "expert report" which suggests that it is practically impossible to operate a car equipped with a factory-installed engine immobilizer of the type in the 2009 Impala.
Is anyone aware of whether it is possible to overcome or bypass an immobilizer system like this one? Or is the system as bullet-proof as the "expert report" author claims?
Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

No, the vehicle is not equipped with a remote starter, nor a car alarm.
It is possible, however, that before the theft someone had access to one of the original ignition keys (containing the chip) for a few minutes.
