My gaughter's car (Chevy malibu 2002) is having problems with the security system I believe. We insert the key, turn the key and nothing happens. The lights in the dashboard, headlight, reading lights, stereo; everything works. I looked at the dashboard for the security system light and is not flashing or ON. I tried resetting the security system by holding the key for 10 min but it didn't work. As of now I had to leave the car in the store's paking lot and I am trying to see if anyone can help me out.

did you check the fuses?there might be one specificly for the passlock system.

whent to check the fuses on the car and before crawling under the dashboard give it a try once more and the car started. Therefore, is it safe to disregard the fuse, by the way I drove the car back home, do you have other suggestions that I can check for.

is it possible it has an anti-grind feature hooked up that was acting as a starter kill?? possible by locking and then unlocking the doors you reset it..... just speculating...

This is what I found out, I went back to the car to test it and after a couple of tries it malfunction again. Couple of seconds after I tried again and start it once more. Is this a possible effect of the anti-grind (going bad) or could it be just the electrical side of the ignition switch.

Possibly have a bad ignition cylinder.
