Hey all,

New to posting on the forum but have come here multiple times for info. I just had a Clifford 3.3x Remote Start/Alarm installed in my 08' Subaru WRX (5-Speed Manual). The gentleman who installed it has installed car starters in a couple of our vehicles, so we trust his work.

We picked up the car today and he informed us that everything was all set, however, could not figure out how the car starter is armed. My wife and I took the car home and read the manual over. Well my wife read it while I drove home. Once we got home I preformed the proper steps to arming the starter, confirmed by the lights flashing 5 times. We stepped out of the vehicle and locked the doors. I then decided to try out the starter and pressed the remote start button. The key-fob gave me the big red "FAIL" buzzer and the lights blinked 7 times, which according to the manual means it was not armed properly.

I dont understand how the starter was enabled but then when asked to start the vehicle was magically disabled. Any suggestions?

Thank you all in advance, for your input.

The lights flashing 5 times is for the Smart Start feature.

And if you read the instruction manual assuming this was set up as a manual rather than use the vehicle NSS, look up "manual remote start reservation mode".
Ask your installer to explain these things to you or refer to the owners manual.

When you got out of the car, it should've still been running until you pressed the arm button.

As said above, learn the "remote start reservation mode".  also, if the alarm is triggered, or doors unlocked, the remote start will not activate.

I could have said something facetious like RTFM but seriously your "trusted" installer was derelict in his duty if he didn't explain this to you.
I always explain, demonstrate AND point it out in the user manual.
