Python 1401 w/18 pin harness
'99 Jeep Cherokee Sport, no immobilizer

Been searching high and low for a solution, but the search > me.

Installing the 1401, and when I opened up the brain to set the light flash polarity, I found the 'holes' for the jumper/fuse are not punched out. Is this something I need to do myself, or is this option not available on the 1401?

ive only seen one brain like that when i was at a friends shop installing for the day. it came default for positive, i verified with a dmm.

the fuse was taped into the box, you can see the tape in the pic.

IF it is defaulted to (+) how would one go about changing that to (-)?

to verify polarity with a DMM, I am assuming I just set to 12v DC, and watch for a signal when the relay clicks? sorry for the rudimentary question, but while I do understand electronics, the addition of the brain box has me a bit apprehensive.

I was using the Viper 5101 install guide, but found it lacking as I have the new 18-pin plug on my 1401. I downloaded the new 5701 instructions, which has the 18-pin diagram, and matching wire coloring. Can I assume that this is a standardized part, and the wiring diagram is proper for the 1401 as well?

I believe your light flash terminals are the 3 at the very top of the picture. Those small squares are just used as a reference.

Well, now that makes every bit of sense, thank you!

While I am on the subject of wiring. The instructions in the vehicle wiring section here state I must use a relay for my door unlock feature. Am I needing to change the polarity of the signal from a (+) from the brain to a (-) for the vehicle?

the brain should have a (-) output but it is only a 200ma output which most likely will not be strong enough to trigger your door locks. In which case you will need either 2 relays or a dei 451m door lock relay in order to increase the signal.

I have it all hooked up, and programed for automaticia!

The unit is not starting the vehicle, though the lights are flashing, and I can hear the innards of the brain doing their thing.

I wired the heavy harness per the instructions from the 5101, using the vehicle wiring information at https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/alarmdetail/1213.html;

H3/1 - PINK - IGNITION 1 INPUT/OUTPUT -> P/Bk
H3/2 - RED / WHITE - (+) FUSED (30A) IGNITION 2 / FLEX RELAY INPUT 87 -> Open
H3/3 - ORANGE - ACCESSORY OUTPUT -> Bk/Wh
H3/4 - VIOLET - STARTER OUTPUT -> Yl
H3/5 - RED - (+) FUSED (30A) IGNITION 1 INPUT -> Bl
H3/6 - PINK/WHITE - IGNITION 2 / FLEX RELAY OUTPUT 30 -> Open
H3/7 - PINK/BLACK - FLEX RELAY INPUT 87A key side (if required) of FLEX RELAY -> Open
H3/8 - RED / BLACK - (+) FUSED (30A) ACCESSORY/STARTER INPUT -> Open

What am I doing wrong here?

the flash polarity is the 3 prong above, left is (+) right is (-) use a 10amp mini ATL fuse.

the other black connector is for a CANMAX bypass dockable module.

If by open you mean no connection than your problem is with the RED / Black wire. That needs to be connected to a 12v source (can be attached in line with the red wire).

Thank you, I will splice it into a 12v constant tomorrow.

Oh, and I have the lights flashing as designed, I thought the little squares cast into the plastic were supposed to be holes, and the jumper clips were for something else. I guess I am just over thinking this thing posted_image
