Ok so I am watning to install the Viper 5101 Remote Start/Keyless Entry on my truck.  I know that there are several threads out there but not really what I am looking for.  I am wanting info from everyone that has done this install before or that can give me guidence.  Anything that I need to look out for.  Problems that you all had and the soulutions that you used to fix.  Any additional relays that I would need for the doors...or anything else.  Basically any info that would help me in this install.  Thanks ahead of time.

You will not need any extra relays for the door locks, but you will need a data module.  The data module will also make the remote start portion much easier. Some of our hands on guys will be able to give you more info on the available modules.

I recommend using an idatalink bypass ADS-DLSL GM1. It should come pre-flashed so you shouldn't have to flash the firmware. it will control the data bypass, lock, unlock, priority unlock, Arm/Disarm factory alarm, door status output, panic mode, rear defrost control, heated seats control, and tach output.

Pretty easy install.  Passlock2 immobilizer system.  Must use module for door locks.  Standard GM
truck ignition wires.

+12V constant       Red x 2          @ ignition harness
Ignition1                 Pink                @ ignition harness
Ignition2                 White             @ ignition harness    *** must power or transmission problems!
Starter                    Yellow            @ ignition harness
Accessory1           Orange           @ ignition harness
Accessory2           Brown             @ ignition harness    ***Optional

Parking Lights    Gray/Black(-)                 @ BCM, Brown Plug, Pin B2
Brake                    White(+)                         @ switch above pedal
Tach                     White (AC)                     @ Instrument Cluster, Pin A5
@ PCM, Green Plug, Pin 10
Not Pink, Black or Brown        @ Any F.I. or Coil

I use iDatalink bypass modules.  There are modules available that can do both the Passlock2
bypass and the door locks / Factory Alarm ( if equipped ).  W2W between the Viper and iDatalink,
only one wire from iDatalink to truck and all the above connections listed above from the Viper
to the truck ( except Tach, which the iDatalink supplies ).  Pre-loaded iDatalink modules for your
truck are ADS-ALSL GM and ADS-DLSL GM1.

Soldering is fun!

So this will connect to the remote start and then this will connect to all the other wires in the truck?

So your saying just the above wire connections between the truck and the ones from the RS to the idata and taa daaa.

On my 99 Prelude I use to have I had a Avital R.S. and I had to have a key in a little box for it to work.  Do I need this.

No. GM's use a different style bypass. The datalink bypass will take care of it.

I believe the GM1 is just an updated version... but I could be wrong.

I am also thinking about going with Avital.  They have a lot better reviews and I loved the one that I had before.  The only thing is that they are saying that D2D doesn't work very well that W2W is the better way.  Any instight.

Python is a re-badged Viper and Avital is a re-badged Python... so you are still getting pretty much the same unit. No matter what unit you go with you will want to go W2W. And if you go with the idatalink bypass you will have to go W2W.

no, but there are only special idatalink bypasses that will work d2d with DEI. And w2w is always the most reliable because you know you have a solid connection sending the signal. It takes a matter of minutes during the prep stage so in my opinion its not worth it to do d2d and risk something not working.
