relay for cigarette lighter

Hello all, new to forum.

1. I have just installed a Pro Start remote starter in a 1991 Suzuki Sidekick. The cigarette lighter normally turns on with the key. When remote starting, it does not come on and I have 12v heated car seat covers that plug in. Could I please get a diagram of how to connect a relay and diode to get this to work. Also, will this connect to the parking lights input? They do come on when remote starter is activated.

2. I would also like to set up driver door priority. I understand I will need a relay for this as well. Any wiring diagrams, please. The Suzuki does have factory power locks, but no remote entry if that helps.

Any response would be greatly appreciated.

Did you connect the acc wire? If so, what color was that wire?

If you did catch that wire, maybe there are 2 acc wires.  You may have to use a meter to find the second wire.

According to the install instructions, I was to connect the Accessory wire to the Yellow/Black in the ignition harness which is what I did. This gave me the heater blower.

The starter unit does have a high current output called a 5th relay output and it says it can be used for a 2nd ignition or 2nd accessory or 2nd starter wire. There is a set of jumpers on the unit to set whether it is 2nd accessory, 2nd ignition or 2nd crank.

Is this the wire to connect the cigarette lighter?

I know nothing about that brand name.  But that would be the wire you would want to connect to the lighter.  You will have to figure out how to make it a second acc.

Leave existing lock wire as is. Find the driver's door unlock motor wire, probably driver kick panel, door loom.
Cut it. Add relay, then original unlock wire via a 1N4004 diode to 85, Constant 12v+ 10amp fused to 86 and 87.
Car side of cut motor wire to 87a
Door side of cut motor wire to 30.
Join R/S 2nd unlock wire or an aux (never heard of this brand so I don't know what's there) to where the original unlock wire went.
As for the first part of your query, if you leave the radio on does it come on with R/S, if not I suggest checking the connection at the yellow/black, see if it's getting 12volts + on R/S.
I bet you've blown the fuse and suggest using a separate relay to feed the cig lighter.
Constant 12v+ at 20 amps to 87 and 86
Status output (GWR) to 85, diode split if powering any existing components, by-pass etc.
Cut lighter 12v+ feed, lighter side to 30
Supply side to 87a.
Supply side to 897a

At the area where you connected all the heavy-gauge wires---ignition, accessory, constant, and starter---there should be one more thick wire in there, that you probably didn't connect anything to.

Of course you should always test before connecting. But when you test that unused wire, it'll show power with the ignition key in the Accessory position.

I'm not familiar with Pro Start, but you should be able to connect your 5th relay output that you describe, to the car's second-accessory wire, and prut the Pro Start's jumper to the "Accessory" position.

Do be aware that not only will your cigarette lighter come on during remote start, but the radio will, as well.

As for the driver's-priority unlocking, are you sure your unit supports it? Not all do. Look at its wiring diagram to see if there's any kind of an output like "second unlock," "driver unlock," and so forth. Alternately, like Howie said, you could use something like an aux or trunk output to do the second unlock function.

This unit is the Pro Start CT-3371 made by AutoStart. Their installation manual describes programming for the priority unlock and an e-mail from their tech support confirms you can do it by adding a relay. Neither the manual or the tech support are much help in describing how. You guys have already given me a lot more info than they did in multiple e-mails.

I am a computer tech and have  formal training in electronics from back in the late 70's. I have not worked with it for many years. I am familiar with reading diagrams and drawings, but unfortunately relay wiring eludes me.

I hope you both don't mind, I sent an e-mail of the manual to you both, so you can see the wiring diagram in it.

I don't mind if the radio is on as I can turn it off when I leave. I have to make sure the heater blower is on anyway.

Howie, is that supply to 897a a typo?

By the way, you guys will be happy to know that I never wire anything until I know or have tested.

So Howie, no blown fuses. I would prefer not to burn up anything.
