Does anyone know how the security system in a 2006 Chevy Express works and how to bypass it. Every time the Van is remote started a security light comes on where the gauges are and then the engine shuts off. The owner says that there is no Chiip in his key as he has made copies at Home Depot and he proved that. I don't know if there is some kind of key sense wire or something but any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

This vehicle uses GM'S PASSLOCK 2 ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM that requires a 791 Bypass
Module to Remote Start,

Does all of those Vans have the GM Passlock2?

Sure sounds like yours does.  There is no transponder chip in the key.  The Passlock2 system
is resistor based and in the ignition key cylinder.  Open up the steering column and look for
a group of 3 thin gauge wires coming from the ignition cylinder.  They will be either White,
Black and Yellow or RED / White, ORANGE / Black and Yellow.

Does anyone know what would be the most cost effective bypass to use in this case. Since everything else is hooked up and and working the owner is not looking to spend more than $30 on the bypass if possible.

The cheapest way is with the relays and resistor - about $10.

Next is a DEI 555L, 555LW or 556LW  bypass module.  They are no longer in production but are available at "online" sites for under $25.  Just make sure it is "new in the box" with all harnesses.  Easy to install, program and reliable.

You didn't know the vehicle had passlock and you're installing remote starts for others?
