Subject: door unlock? on vehicle tracking unit

i have installed 5 tracking units on 5 vehicles for my wifes emplorer and he wants the door unlock feature hooked up, they are vp390 tracking units from GPS Techonolgies, now my question is would i be able to just hook into the unlock wire with a relay? i have a relay diagram from the company but not sure if it will work correctly tieing into vehicle's unlock wire in bcm or if i have to hook to unlock wire on lock/unlock motor.

the vehicles are 2 2007 ford e150 vans, 2 2006 dodge grand caravans, and 1 2007 chevy 1500 express.

their relay diagram has a jumper from #85 to #30, #30 to vehicle unlock circuit, #87 to ground, and unlock wire from tracker to #86 of relay.

all the vehicles have negative triggers so will this work for every vehicle?

thanks in advance

85 - unlock from gps unit
86 - constant 12v
87 - ground
30 - unlock wire on car.

Not sure about the ford and chevy, but I'm almost positive the dodge will require a resistor for the unlock.

thats what im trying to figure out, i forgot to mention that their diagram has a diode between #85 and #86 with the cathode on #85 side, and wondering if i have to diode isolate trigger, the only function of the tracker is to unlock the door/doors from a computer not lock them, also how would i check what size resistor i might need? can i probe the unlock trigger at bcm while pressing unlock to figure out ohms? thanks again for any help, i've installed many alarms and remote starters, but these are the first trackers i have installed so not sure if there wiring is like an alarm or rs unit.

The problem with Chrysler vehicles is twofold, the resistive values for unlock are sometimes different to "factory alarm disable and unlock" so measuring the resistance across the lock switch in the driver's door won't work if there's a factory alarm, also isn't a double pulse unlock required?

no need to diode isolate unlock wire. the diode across the relay is recommended, not needed. the installation of a tracking system is identical to an alarm.

2007 ford e150 vans BROWN (REV) or PINK/GREEN (-) no resistor
2006 dodge grand caravans PURPLE / GRENN (-) 1800ohm @ bcm connector 3
2007 chevy 1500 express WHITE (-) no resistor

If that tracker's NEG output pulse is over 150 milliamps (and I guarantee it if it triggers a relay, the only relay needed will be on the Chrysler/Dodge vehicles.
Tracker like an alarm Ted? I wish alarms took me about 8 minutes (including stealthing) on vehicles I do regularly. posted_image

not sure if they require a double pulse, ill have to check this weekend, the company does have 8 other caravans with tracking units but the owner isnt sure if door locks are hooked up, the guy that installed trackers in other vehicles went out of business last year, i looked at one of the other vans but the last guy left a rats nest of wires under the dash, i guess ill have to clean up his wiring and try the door locks to see if they work.

thanks again for any and all help.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful but "e" and Express are totally alien, rare as rocking horse doodie in Europe, all I've ever done on Grand Caravans (assuming that's the Voyager here) is audio, Bluetooth and trackers.

i have another thread on here about tracking units and door locks but to make a long story short i have completed 3 of 5 vehicles and plan on finishing the last 2 this weekend, thanks again for the help with previuos problems.

now i have one more question concerning last 2 vehicle, they are dodge grand caravans and i have all the wiring infor i need just curious what type of resistor im going to need, i have found on this site plus have heard from some members on the proper OHM resistors i need to use but was wondering what wattage resistor's i will need? i have 1/4 watt and 1/2 watt resistors at the correct resistance but would i be safe in using the 1/4 watt or should i go with the 1/2 watt or even a bigger one? any help is appericated.

I am hooking up door locks on q dodge grand caravan and know the correct resistors to use just wondering if I can use a 1/4 watt resistor, a 1/2 amp resistor, or a higher amp resistor? I just want to use a 1/4 amp one and end up melting one that small,
Any help is appericatedthanks

1/4 watt is fine, it's still low current, it's just the tracker's output may not be able to overcome the resistance without a relay.

ok thanks howie, another question if you dont mind, i have a 1/4 watt 1% tolerance assortment from radio shack they are different values, they all have 5 bands, now which band would be the tolarance band, i found another site that allows you to type in the bands to figure out the resistance but the lines are so small and spaced evenly apart so how can i tell which band is which?

Use a DMM to measure them.
