What is the minimum lbs. rating of pull that will get the job done for a small import car?

I see 11lbs - 15lbs - 35lbs all the way up to 100lbs and piced accordingly, so I don't want to spend more than I have to, but I also want it to work.

Most foreign cars you can get away with light weight solenoids .
If you want an exact weight.
Use a fish scale attach to door handle and pull. See how many pounds it takes and buy accordingly . Bumping a few pounds to take in age-ing cold weather ect...

so I got the 40lb solenoid, and my alarm has a negative output channel availiable, do I need a relay or do I wire the positive from the solenoid to constant 12 volts (when key is off) and then just attach the negative from the solenoid to the negative output on the alarm?

I was getting really confused looking therough the relay wiring database, so if I do need a relay will you please point me or post here, how I need to wire it.

i wire them as black to ground, red will be triggered by a relay
85 - ground output from alarm (example aux1)
86 - constant 12v
87 - constant 12v
30 - to positive wire on solenoid.

can those 2 positive's (86 & 87) be the same wire just jumped?

and should that go straight to the battery since it came with a 35amp fuse? or I could run it back to my amps.

So I got it all wired up and working, but only like every 3rd try that it pops. I put a door popper spring on. Could that be an issue? Cuz without the spring it only kicked out part way and was still latched. I also read somewhere that I may be supposed to have a diode on the relay to prevent spikes?

also, your description of the relay hookup varies slightly from what I did find tonite on the site, I assume that both will do the same with the same current and effect?
