Subject: parking light pos/neg, and remote start

Hello, currently i have an old 1 way alarm. I am going up upgrade to a newer 2 way alarm with remote start. I am planning to use the old wires that are currently on the car and wire it to the new alarm brain. But i ran into some confusion.   This is for a 1994 Acura Integra.

The old alarm had a parking light output NEG. The new one states can use POS or NEG for output but need to switch the jumper.   I don't know what or where the jumper thing is.

Direct quote:
"Parking light output (+/-) Relay.   Connect this wire to the circuit that shows +12V or ground only when parking lights are on and set the internal parking light relay jumper to the proper polarity."

What do i do? Do i need an additional relay?

For the remote starter.
I have starter intturupt relay right now.

Do i tap in the ignition wire for remote start here (#1)?
For the starter wire, do i tap it into here (#2) after cut? or before cut?

Also there's this other wire;
"(+) Ignition input of the key Cylinder to Alarm. Connect to the ignition wire that provides +12V when ignition is on and while cranking the starter."

Do i tap this into #1 from the diagram as well?

Sorry if this post was really confusing.

Thanks :)

what unit are you installing? if its a viper or DEI unit, there is a cover with a fuse for polarity. the integra used positive parking lights more often, as it was easier to get to.

starter kill
85 - ground when armed
86 - ignition 1
87a - starter wire key side
30 - starter wire motor/car side

While you didn't mention the Brand / Model of the new R/S Alarm system, it sounds like a Viper.  If so there
is an internal Fuse than can be positioned for (+) Parking Lights ( Factory Default ) or (-) Parking Lights.
The Parking Light relay is already there, inside the unit.  There might be an install guide in the Download
Section for you unit.

Sounds like you are going to re-use the current Starter Kill relay.
Assuming the current WHITE/ Brown Ignition wire is the correct gauge, the new systems Ignition1 wire can be
connected to the wire at your #1 location.  The news systems Starter1 output should be connected at Relay
Pin 30 ( or on the vehicle side of Starter wire ).  Some Viper units have this Starter Kill / Anti-Grind
relay built in.

The extra Alarm Ignition Input sense wire can be connected at the same point ( your #1 marker).

It is a Radiostar Generation RSA0591, picked it up for $65 brand new.

It's pretty much a peice of junk, but i succesfully installed it today and it seems to run fine so far.

I used the parking light signal directly from the fuse box so it's 12v+, no hassle.

I did reuse the old starter kill relay, but connected all the remote start wires directly to the ignition harness.

Thanks kreg357 and tedmond for your replies.

if you're talking about the radiostar start from XS cargo, i have replaced dozens of those. work great when installed and works for the first year, then nothing but problems then on.

Yes it's the one from xs cargo.   I am fully aware that these things are junk and will fail anytime soon.   But this just gives me a reason to work on my car which i somewhat enjoy doing on my free time. Probably will get a compustar/nustart later on after this dies posted_image
