Viper 5701 installed on a 2005 nissan altima almost 2 years ago.
Bypass module: Fortin CAN SL2.
Worked fine all this time, two weeks ago remote started acting up.
Press start, car would start but remote would give me 4 amber alerts and 2 function alerts after 3 sec another 2 function alerts. Now it only give me the alerts and the car won't start, won't lock or unlock the doors and no chirps either as if the unit wasn't even connected. Checked for any visual problems with wiring or constant 12 volts, so far nothing found.
How can I diagnose whether it's the remote unit or the fortin bypass?
I suspect the remote unit to be bad just for the fact that I got no chirps when trying to execute any function.
I appreciate any help

I forgot to add an important detail.
Car starts normally with Key.

the remote batteries are on low. when you press a function, it depletes the battery and restarts. change 2 of the batteries inside.

Thank you tedmond for your prompt answer.
The remote batteries was the first thing I did.
I couldn't try with the one way remote because it was broke in the past.
I friend of mine has an unit just like mine, so I borrowed his 2 way remote and programmed it for my car. Guess what!
It's working, meaning my 2 way remote is broken, I guess I'm gonna have to spend some money on a new one now.
Again Thank you.

does the remote have a "slide" back battery cover, or does it have the old "side cartridge" loader. the slide is the new version, so if you have the old they were known to go bad.
