Hello'

I have a 98 Ford F150 and i have just installed a Viper 5601 car alarm/remote starter combo. I had a UltraStart alarm/remote starter installed for several years until it died. The vehicle also has a MPI (Manitoba Public Insurance) immobilizer and bypass module (for the remote start). I installed the Viper 5601 exactly the same way i installed the UltraStart unit (same wiring configuration), very simple actually. Now when go to use the remote start, the park lights flash once and nothing happens. I did proghram the tach and changed settings in menu to from manual to automatic trans and virtual tach to tachometer. As for the immobilizer bypass there is only one wire that goes to (-) 500mA ground when armed/ or remote start same as the Old UltraStart unit. I did,t use any second igniton connections and only the starter output wire since the immobizer has already taken car of the starter kill. I just find it wierd that the Viper doesn't even turn on the ignition. The remote start sequence doesn't even seem to initiate. If you have any suggestions i would greatly appreciate them. I'm kind of leaning towards the brain being faulty. Just so you know, i am a mechanic, have been for 20 + years. I have installed many remote starters but this one stumps me.

Thanks,

Rob

the negative from the bypass should be for the status or ground when running, not ground when armed.

did you power all 12v connections, connect ign and the acc?

Thanks tedmond for your input. All 12v connections are powered to yellow constant 12v wires at ign switch, ign1 connected to blue/green wire at ign switch. I have tried the dark blue (-) 200mA status output wire as well to the immobilizer(which appears to be better) and no change. The (-) 500mA grounded when armed output orange wire still gives you  a ground when you hit  the start button on the remote but the dark blue status wire gives you a ground connection longer.

Did you connect the Neutral Safety Switch and set it to the ON position?

Run the Shutdown Diagnostics to see the actual reason for the R/S fault.

OK, so i cut the park light wire and now the remote start works, some what. I have no idea why. So i start the vehicle with the key then relearn the tach and everything working ok. But, after some time the vehicle sits then the tach gets lost or something because i have to relearn tach again in order fgor it to remote start. Any ideas? And why can't i have the park light wire attached? If the park light wire is connected then when i go to remote start the vehicle the park lights flash once fast and noting happens. I still think that the brain is screwed up.

OK, i figured it out. My trailer wires were crossed, the park lights were shorted to the brake wire
