I have installed the 4103 on my 1991 Lincoln Continental.4 door power locks no security entry.

I have R/S hooked up working properly. Parking lights work, horn works but locks and trunk do not work. I have looked and can not find anything specific to my cars issue. I have tried 2 pulses and pulse duration.I was/am under the impression I do NOT need any relays or bypasses. If someone else has any input to help and maybe has another sugestion I would greatly apreciate input.I am guessing I need a relay at trunk but power locks from my understanding should not.

thanks

Trunk release   Purple / YELLOW    at switch

door lock Pink / YELLOW        drivers kick

door unlock       Pink/Light Green          drivers kick

If you have factory keyless entry then it will be type b negitive locks but if your car doesn't have factory keyless entry you will need either 2 relays and wire it as 5 wire locks diagram is on this site. Or you can get a 451M module

The trunk release is positive trigger from the car, the RED / white from the 4103 is negative so you will need a relay there too

It looks like you have the correct color wires

Thats what I was afraid of or kinda thinking.

So the 451M would correct my locking issues without the relay?

thanks for the reply.

Yes the 451M replaces the 2 lock relays but you will still need one for the trunk

I have been looking at diagrams for the relay wiring for the trunk release and they are all different. Does anyone know the correct exact way?

thanks

I have this

87 to ground

87a to latch side of trunk switch on purple / YELLOW

87 to ground

85 to r/s trunk output

30 to trunk side of trunk switch on purple / YELLOW

no fuse is needed?

some say to cut purple / YELLOW and other say not too, so what is it?

I've never personally done your car but all my info says positive trigger not 5 wire so wire the relay like this

87 to fused 12 volts
30 to trunk release wire
85 to 4103 trunk release wire
86 to fused 12 volts

Thanks for the response for the trunk its working perfectly now

Im having a ltittle trouble with the lock still. The 451M I have hooked up but keep blowing fuses. I have looked over this site and some say to not hook up white and brown, some say to combine together and ground and others say to cut motor wires etc. So Im confused.

power lock         pink / YELLOW to           451m green

power unlock    pink/green to  451m  blue

lock motor          pink/black    ???? I tried brown and white pop fuse

unlock motor     pink/orange ???    this said RED / orange in the wiring diagram but its wrong I check at switch and its pink/orange FYI.I tried brown and white pop fuse

any other ideas. Do I need to cut wires completly etc.

thanks in advance Im almost done but a little more and Ive got it.

Sorry I can't help much with the 451M I've never used one. I always use relays. I tried to download the install guide but my phone won't let me. Follow the type C install instructions and yes you will need to cut the wires in half

87 and 85 12volt power

When you tested your pink / YELLOW and pink green, how did they test?  Positive or negative?

Negative

If they test negative then you shouldn't need relays the 4103 output is a neg trigger. How did you test the wires where were your red and black leads ?

this is what Ive found on this now, does this make more sense? 5 Wire Reverse Polarity door locking system. How wopuld I wire this.? Do you still cut the pink/yelllow and pink/green wires?

5 wire is how you have it. You said you're having problems what is happening ?   1 thing I noticed you have 1 relay for lock pink / YELLOW and 1 for unlock pink/green correct. You wrote used a relay just wanted to make sure you didn't tie both lock and unlock to one relay

Does your car have the keypad on the door?  If so, it should be type B, negative switching.  Did you try jumpering your doorlock wires to ground once you tested and found the correct ones?

No no keypad. There was no keyless remotes either. I think its just power locks but I dont know since its a use car and I dont know if they came with remotes. But no, no keypad.

Just has wire as follow if this helps any one

pink / YELLOW powerlock   I cut

pink/green powerunlock I cut

pink/black lock motor

pink/orange unlock motor

BLACK/ white ?

Did you use 2 relays for locks ? What happens when they dont work ?

O.K. So I think I finalyy got it.

Its 5 wire reverse polarity

87,85,86,87 to 12volt

86 to Lock on r/s

85 to unlock on r/s

30 to motor pink / YELLOW (cut wire)

30 to  pink/green (cut wire)

87a to ground at chasis

87a to ground at chasis

now does anyone know if I could get it to work and it be wrong still? cause it works and even at the switches so I would like to confirm with anyone sugestions.

Are you trying to do this with one relay ? You need to use 2 one for lock and one for unlock

1st relay should be

87 to fused 12 volts
30 to motor side of cut wire
87a to switch side of cut wire
85 to either lock or unlock coming from 4103
86 to fused 12 volts

Relay 2 wired the same just put the other lock or unlock wire on pin 85 which ever you didn't use on the other relay

To rmp219:
That really doesn't look correct to me.  ( Relay Pin 87A does not go to chassis ground.)
Download DEI Tech Tip 1041 from the download section and refer to Page 6 for Type C
identification and proper relay wiring.  https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/file.asp?ID=708

Also download the DEI 451M install guide and check out that info on Type C locks.
https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/file.asp?ID=726

The 12 Volt  has a relay wiring diagram :  https://www.the12volt.com/doorlocks/page3.asp#5w

The 451M will be the easiest to implement.

Thank you for your help. I have looked at the 12volt site and found a 5 wire reverse polarity diagram and used it. Grounded the wires. It works and 5 wire relay you gave me doest work. Im not sure why. Could a bad switch cause the problem on the car  itself?

Grounded what wires ? The pink / YELLOW and pink/green ?

This is how I did it.

This is practically identical to the 5 wire alternating 12V(+) system above. The only difference is there's no switch! Both motor legs rest at ground at the relays. To lock or unlock the vehicle, polarity is changed on one motor leg.

I believe you reversed the motor and switch side of the wires. With the pink / YELLOW cut, when the switch is actuated to the lock position, the switch side wire will change polarity from ground to +12V. The same happens with the pink/light green wire when the switch is moved to the unlock position. Recheck and report back.
