Subject: add beep to keyless

Hello,
2012 Mustang with factory keyless entry. Lights flash but no sound on lock/unlock. Would like to add some audible beep sound to the lock function and was told I need to connect a relay to the door lock wire. This would enable the lock button to both flash the parking lights as usual and also add a short quiet beep from a piezo siren that I plan to install.
Can anyone advice on what type of relay I need to purchase and what the exact connections would be? The purpose of the relay is so that when the car is on, pressing the lock on the remote fob will not send a beep to the piezo.
thank you.

Most ford systems beep on the second press of the remote I believe this feature can be turned off. Did you check you're owners manual to see of its listed ?

Yes you are correct. 2nd press of lock button send a short beep to the car horn. What I'm looking to do is connect a small, relatively quiet piezo siren under the hood that beeps when lock button is pressed once confirming that vehicle is locked.
I think this can be done by hooking positive lead of piezo to the "lock motor" wire (whichever one that is). Problem is that I start car and start to drive off, vehicle has auto lock feature about 15mph automatically locks doors. So that sends a beep to the siren too. don't want that. I was told that by hooking up a relay someone, the "beep" function could be disabled when the vehicle was on, and only energized when the vehicle was off....just need the correct connections and what type of relay to purchase.
thanks.

you could do it off the lock motor wire. I belive the siren only draws ma of current. The lock motor wire should be a gray/brown wire in the DKP. Use a 5 pin relay to interupt the siren wire when the key is turned on.
85 to gnd
86 to switched 12v
87A to one side of your siren wire
30 to the other side of siren wire
wired this way the relay contacts will be closed when the car is off and opened when the car is on

ok thanks for all the help...now where does the vehicle lock motor wire (gray/brown) get connected to on the relay?

Maybe something like this, already in a neat package?

Ok. think I figured it out with some research on my own but maybe someone can confirm...
85 to gnd 86 to switched 12v 87A to door lock motor wire on vehicle 87 (not connected) 30 to the positive side of siren wire
ground the negative side of siren to chassis

No no no no.
85 to ground.
86 to lock motor wire (It's in the body control module).
87 to 5amp constant 12v+.
30 to siren pos.
87a not used.
The other diagram I showed you is for ignition interrupt.

By the way, if you used a switched (ignition, ACC) supply the siren would ONLY sound with the ignition on,and then by connecting 87a all the time the ignition was on.
Could I suggest you follow Tommy's good advice?
You don't really seem up for this.
Chevy we were both right.

Howie take a look at his diagram again. I think it would work. As long as the ignition is off the relay will be deenergized which will allow the door lock pulses to pass through the NC contacts and sound the siren for ~0.8 seconds. Once the ignition is turned on the relay energizes and breaks the contacts, preventing the beeper from working when the ignition is on.
The biggest problem there is that a ~0.8 second is generally a bit long for a confirmation beep. If you use a traditional alarm siren you most likely won't get a clean chirp as the siren will start in on its siren routine.
I may be biased but I like the prepackaged solution!

That's why I recommended it via Tommy's post!
Except I think Mr. I hit the nail on the head, no parts required!

I need to check to make sure that the Radio Shack peizo buzzer does not have reverse polarity protection. I do not think it does. If it does not, you can connect the buzzer's positive wire to the door lock wire. Connect the buzzer's ground wire to the ignition wire. No relay needed. Get the buzzer, and fuse it at 1 amp. Connect it backwards and if it makes no noise and the fuse does not blow, the above should work for you, no relay needed.

Well went with my original plan using the relay and works great! I substituted a few different piezo buzzers until I found the tone and volume that sounded good.
thanks for all the help.
