Im looking at buy a 998T Bitwriter.
just wondering if something has a list of what u can program on alarm systems like functions. (not what alarm systems work with it)

I don't have an all inclusive list, but it is a great tool IMO. I do this as a hobby and I own one. You can program everything that you can with the push button and more. You can adjust the run time on RS to whatever value you want up to 60 mins, instead of having to chose from 12,24,60. You can lock out programming options, lock out the ability to program a new remote, etc. You can also 'fine tune' the virtual tach feature, which is something you can not do at all without the bitwriter. Just make sure you buy the one with the latest chip to ensure it will work with the newest units.

If you're installing an Australian "Thatcham" style alarm, you will need to keep the ignition on whilst programming.

its a nice tool to have. ive had mine forever and even though i dont install viper much anymore i still keep it around just because it makes it so much easier if i do have to program one. usually it doesnt give you any extra options but it will allow you to fine tune the alarm a bit more that through the valet button. download the install manual for any viper alarm you are curious about and it will show you what the "bitwriter only" options are for that particular alarm.

Page 75 of the Viper 5701 Install manual might have the information you are looking for. I do this as a hobby and I think it is a great tool to have. Sure beats the button pressing dance that can get quite confusing. To me, it was worth the money. No different than buying any other quality tool for your tool box. Considering I had to set an aux output on a V1002 for 35 seconds timed on when alarm was activated to close the roof on an E46 BMW yesterday and my friend couldn't find his Bitwriter I'm beginning to think I'm wrong.

By the way I was only referring to the Viper 460 and 480XV models which are UK/Oz spec. only. You have to keep the ignition on to enter programming.
