Hello, I have a 1998 Toyota 4x4 RAV 4 SUV that I bought used. It has a car alarm on it that I want to permanently deactivate/remove. I don't have any manual or info about the alarm system, not sure if it is Toyota OEM or not. I have added an image of the remote. I do not use it at all but occasionally my knee hits a small red push button switch on the lower left side of dash, it looks aftermarket. Then remote activates and I have to dog out the remote that I don't normally use. Also frustrating when changing battery, alarm goes off. I want this thing outa there! If someone could tell me what wires to clip/splice back I am willing to try. It is very annoying.

thanks

Start by just un-plugging the Unit. Verify the car starts. If the car doesnt start, you will have to re-attach the starter wire... Or... Follow all the wires from the Module/Brain and disconnect at their connection points. Repair all connection points in the car. I believe that is an Old Prestige unit(audiovox)

That looks like an AudioVox Prestige or Audiovox Pursuit alarm. Just follow the wires back from the switch your knee is hitting or from the LED and you will find the brain to the alarm. It'll be a Black box with white plug with many wires in it, and a few smaller plugs for the LED and switch. Just unplug all the connectors. The car should start with no problems after it is unplugged. If it doesn't start then the starter wire that was cut in half during the alarm install needs to be rejoined back together. Usually not necessary though. Starter wire is a red wire coming down the steering column from the ignition cylinder. I think after it comes down the steering column it then heads over toward the fusebox. The original alarm installer could have cut the wire anywhere along that line.
