Hi all i just installed a omega 830i07 on my cadillac cts.
Note this was my first installation of a remote start ever done.
The install was not hard to do at all with the help of the internet and a few people that i have met on various forums.
i did not hook up the hood pin switch because i was wondering if a could use a mercury tilt switch without any problems. I have noticed the mercury switch has to wires and the hood pin only one.

What are you guys thoughts about the two.

Mercury switch easier to install, no need to think about positioning to catch the hood and moisture retarding, it has two wires because one is the ground. With a pin switch, the body is the ground.

I use the mercury switch on all of my installs as the regular plunger hood pin will get rusty and not work properly. I usually groung the second wire under the mounting tab of the switch, which is then screwed to the hood for the ground.

The only downside to a tilt switch is if you park on a steep hill.  Depending on tilt switch positioning and vehicle angle, it might sense a hood open condition and not remote start the car.

Use them all the time.  Here is a "no holes drilled" way to install.

Please, help yourself.   I'm sure this was install method was done long before I thought of it.   In the spirit of sharing, if you clean the metal area of the hood support hinge well, you can use a squeeze or two of hot-glue to secure the wires from the switch so they won't get damaged and stay neatly out of sight.  posted_image

1prix: Hood pins won't rust if you spray them with a moisture retardant on installation or use the Euro flanged plastic encased, see Metra page 26. Read the thread on this page on pin switches.

Any body use magnetic reed switch in place of a hood pin switch.
If so would i need a normally open type switch.

I've not used them in place of hood pins but they should work great.

It would have to be normally open (N.O.) to work with most alarms and remote starters out there.

i also thought about adding a switch inline on the hood pin wire instead.

Why?
Not needed if you already have a hood pin, also one more thing to go wrong.
