In the process of installing an audiovox aps901C with a honda sl3 bypass in a 03 TL-s. The car tries to start but fails and the green key light flashes. I programmed the SL3 but it will not come on during remote start. I applied ground directly to the blue wire on the SL3 and still it does not turn on. I tried another SL3 that I know works and same thing. I donno what is wrong. I followed the SL3 type 2 wiring diagram. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you put a meter on the main power input to the SL3 to make sure it is getting power? Same with the main ground.

Yes there is 12v and ground. I took the blue wire of the SL3 and put it directly to ground and the unit LED does NOT come on.

Update:

The blue wire on the SL3 was not making a connection. The pin itself was broken so I fixed that. It learned the program and when I go to remote start it starts no security green light on but the car runs for only like 10 seconds before it turns off. When it tries again to start it fails with the green security light on. Help please.

Disconnect the SL3 and try remote starting it with the key in the ignition (in the off position). See if it starts and stays running.

I have not connected tach. I have done others without connecting tach. I believe I have tried with the key in the ignition and it will start and then turn off also.

If it doesn't run with the key in the ignition then its not a bypass related issue. Did you program the unit for tachless operation? A tach connection is always the best way to connect the starter, but it may not necessarily be your issue here.

Well it does run, but for like 10 seconds and then shuts off. When the remote starter tries to restart it fails with the security light flashing.

And that is with the key in the ignition and the SL3 out of the car and the data wire re-connected correct? If so then it doesn't sound like a bypass issue.

Frankly I don't give a damn if you've connected others without tach, more fool you but what you've described is EXACTLY non-learned tach.
ALL R/S UNITS; ANY MAKE WILL RUN FOR 10-15 SECONDS IF TACH NOT LEARNED.

I'd have to agree with howie. The correct way is to connect a tach. It sounds like your unit is programmed for tach mode and is looking for a tach signal that doesn't exists since it's not connected.

It works perfectly now. The RS programming needed to be changed for voltage sensing. Once I did that it started and stays running.

I am still in shock that the SL3 blue wire was not terminated in the connector correctly. What are the chances of the wire being crimped in the connector without it being stripped back I just don't know.

According to your info you are in the Northeast... so although voltage sensing is working for you now, I wouldn't plan on it being very reliable over time. Do yourself a favor and connect the tach. It will provide 2 major 'conveniences'. 1, it will give the unit a clear accurate signal that the vehicle is started (cutting down on the 'false' starts. 2, if there is ever an issue with say a stuck throttle, or something that would cause the vehicle to over-rev, the tach works as a safety and senses that over-rev and shuts the car down to save it from possible engine damage.

I cannot find the tach wire. Any pictures showing in detail where this wire is? Documents say blue wire in connector behind air box.

Blue wire in 2 way connector taped to engine bay loom, driver side behind suspension tower.
Or to injection control or an injector wire odd colour.
Or behind rev counter in inst. panel.

I will look for the tach wire and wire it up. Why does the APS901C not retry when first try fails? Is it because it thinks the car has started? The problem is when its cold the car tries but does not start. The parking lights do come on and stay on which makes me think the RS thinks the car is running therefor does not retry. I am hoping wiring the tach is the solution once I find it. Any other suggestions? Noticed that when it does not start, if I turn it off and try to RS again the second time it does start.

Anyone know why the remote starter will run forever and not time out? I am sure I have it set to 20min but it will remote start and continue to run forever.
