I have a Viper 5904 and 5704. They both have the feature to start the car automatically once the car's battery gets too low or once a set low/high temperature is reached. It is my understanding that both of my systems require the Smart Start add-on module to be able to do that. Is there a way to have that capability without buying the near $200 module?

You are incorrect as to needing the $200 module as these options are included in both of these systems, it just set to 10.5 volts by default unless the installer turned it off, and can be adjusted to between 9v to 12.5v in 0.5v increments with a bitwriter for the low battery start voltage.
It listed under the Bitwriter only options (Settings Can only be changed with a bitwriter) on pg. 18 of the install manual for both the 5904, and 5704.

Thank you for your reply sir. I'm glad i am wrong. Do you have any info of how i would go about activating/using the feature? I haven't been able to use it.
Also one more question. Does it read the voltage through the 3 thicker fused power cables on the remote start harness or the fused thinner fused wire in the other harness?

When i did the advanced start from the hd 2-way remote the icon for the remote start with a thermometer shows on the screen. Is there a way to pick either a temperature trigger or low voltage trigger or is whichever one requirement is met first?

The features you are wanting to set can only be done with a Bitwriter. Lurch228 mention that in his post. Your installer should be able to set these for you.

If they are still set to default (enabled) Then which ever one is reached first will activate the remote start

That is for internal temp monitoring of the vehicle to remote start if the high or low temp is reached that it is set to.

All this info is in the Owener's Guide if you read it.

Thank you both for your replies. I did the install myself and don't have access to a bit-writer. I have read the manual but i just can't get it to start at 10.5 volts. No settings have being changed. Do you know what power wire it uses to read the voltage? Is it the thicker wires on the remote start harness of the other thinner one? I have a back-up alarm system battery installed, could that be causing the issue?

Only if you have the back up wired wrong would it stop the Smart Start from working. How are you getting the battery down to below 10.5 volts? FYI most batteries won't start a vehicle at 10.5 volt no load, so the unit should be set to 11.5 to 12.1 volts. Each vehicle is different as to the needs to start based on amps of draw and rating and age of battery.
Are the units refurbished units that have been programmed once already or are the new never installed or programmed units. If they are refurbished white box units the the may have been set to off already, by a previous installer. Voltage is read by the main power H1 harness, not the remote start harness.
