Installed a Prestige APS996c in my Santa Fe. Verified everything and the alarm works perfectly. However when I try to RS the engine doesn't crank. The module supplies power to the starter wire however doesn't crank. When the engine is running the module takes over and the key can be removed.
Not sure what's preventing the starter from engaging. Any ideas anyone?

Did you install the starter disable relay? If you did, which side of the relay did you connect the start wire to? The key side or starter side. I bet it is on the key side.

You don't mention where you are but the Canadian version has an immobilizer. Try placing the key in the ignition without turning on when you try the RS...

Thought that was the case as well so tried the RS with the system unarmed and still no go. I also tried it with the key in the ignition. Factory RS works fine as long as the alarm isn't armed. So still puzzled.

@Mike - I'm state side. No immobilizer.

the starter kill relay also doubles as the anti grind relay that is supposed to be on while you remote start. if you have the yellow wire on the wrong side of the starter kill relay then the car wont crank. i usually combine the yellow starter wire and the solid black from the starterkill relay and that will go to the engine side of the cut starter wire, the WHITE/ black goes to the key side of the vehicle's starter wire.

Have you tried using your DVM and testing the yellow crank wire during the RS process?

Also, "factory RS"??? There is no factory rs for this car. If it is a dealer installed unit there would be a T harness on the ignition switch and you are connecting on the wrong side of the T....

Yes, I had verified which side was installed on the starter kill relay but will re-verify the wires soon as the snow melts.

@ Mike - Yes, tested the starter wire and it gets 12+ V during crank. As for the factory RS yes, factory. If you google: Hyundai 2B056-ADU00 Remote Start Kit. It's also a factory option: $350.

That is not a factory system; it is a dealer installed option. You need to check if there is an anti-grind feature with that system. If it has one you need to connect the start wire on the starter side of that relay.

Indeed, it's an option on all levels on Santa Fe's but is either installed at the port or at the dealership(not the factory). Because of this, some human had to get in the car and install it after it was made. On most units of this kind, they unplug the ignition switch harness and plug in a T to replace it.

Interesting I always thought any place before the dealer is considered "factory". As the saying goes, you learn something new everyday.

On that note then I guess it's safe to say I'm on the key side then. I traced the harness from the key to the module then to the other side of the harness. So I'd be correct to move the starter wire to the other harness? Guess it'll be another weekend project another day when this rain/snow mix stops but I will keep you posted of my progress.

Thanks for all the help and Happy New Year to everyone!
