Subject: 05 chevy equinox will not crank

Hi there, just wondering if I could get any hints or tips. I have a 05 chevy equinox that I am installing a viper 4104 in to and I have 2 questions. First door lock wires are + polarity and the viper kit says its output is - polarity, how would i get this working? now the big one, I have everything else hooked up and ready to go but the remote start activates and i get power on ignition and 2 accessories and then lose the power on 2 accessories and then it is supposed to crank. But does not crank at all. This install says it does not require a starter output wire to crank. I am kind of lost on what to do to get this vehicle to crank with the remote start. Please any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

What bypass are you using?
You should have 2 ignitions and 1 Accessory ------------- When all else fails, Read the Instructions

and the wiring color code sheet says it has 2 accessories and 1 ignition

What wiring code sheet are you refering to? The type 6 install for the xk09 shows 2 ignitions and 1 acc. Have you tested and verified the wires on the ignition switch with a DMM?
You will also have 2 wires from the 20 Pin xk09 connector to the starter output and the ignition 1 output of the Viper unit, on the way to the wiring harness of the car. ------------- When all else fails, Read the Instructions

My apologies, there are 2 Acc and 1 ignition on that car. And no starter wire. I did one back in October using a DB-ALL W2W.
Link to that posting: https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp~TID~132274~KW~smokeman1~PN~1~TPN~1
Even tho the wiring show a connection to the car for starter on the DB-ALL, I did not connect it. Follow the notes Kreg provided me, Test the wires you are using.
Most likely the starter output from the Viper goes to the starter input of the XK09. ------------- When all else fails, Read the Instructions

i dont see it on the diagram for the bypass but it has it on the vehicle wiring info and says it is required.
Keysense lt. green (required) - BCM, 24 pin gray plug, pin A8
just wondering if there is a connection off the remote start module to hook this up to?

do i still need to use a diode for either of those?
Posted By: jd_21
Date Posted: December 22, 2012 at 2:07 PM
ok so it still wont start..i even tried just grounding that wire myself when remote start is activating..im am getting really confused. the remote start activates and then it loses power on the accessory wires, and then is supposed to crank the starter, you can tell when it wants to crank but doesnt. then if i put the key in the ignition and turn to the ON position it starts right up and i can then take the key out of the ignition and it keeps running and i can disable it with the remote start key fob. any ideas on what i could be missing?

should the starter still crank if i take the bypass module completely out of the loop? like crank and not start or start but die right away?

Lets make sure we are on the same install diagram. Type 6 XK09? Right??
Viper H3 harness.. H3/1 pink is connected to pink on ignition harness and to pin 8 pink of 20 pin connector
H3/4 violet to pin 7 violet of 20 pin connector
H3/6 Pink/White is default to Ignition 2, change it to ACC 2 in the Viper Brain.
Viper H2/9 Dark Blue to Pin 1 Blue/White of XK09, 20 pin conn
Pin 9 Red of 20 Pin conn to 12 volts constant...Pin 10 Black of 20 Pin to Black OR ORANGE / Black at ignition switch
Pin 12 yellow/black to pin 15 yellow, 20 pin conn, then to yellow at ignition switch
Pin 13 violet/brown to pin 16 brown, 20 pin conn
Viper H2/3 Blue/white to keysense or car...Set to 2nd status in Viper Brain.
Then program the XK09 to the car per the programing instructions.
What have you got the Vipers Tach wire connected to??? Are all your connections soldered?? Make sure you test the wires you are connecting to with a DMM. ------------- When all else fails, Read the Instructions

On the Viper, it is defaulted as Manual transmission. If your equinox is automantic, this needs to be changed to Automatic in the Viper brain. H2/3, 2nd status is defaulted to 2nd status. H1/2 black to ground as well as H2/2 for nutral safety switch. Also the toggle switch needs to be plugged in and set to ON.
And of course you need to program the Tach Learning of the Viper unit. Page 7 of the install manual ------------- When all else fails, Read the Instructions

yes all those connections are correct and i always solder all my connections. This is the first time I have ever run into an issue like this before. and everything you have mentioned i have done, except program the bypass unit. It should still crank and shutdown tho without the bypass programmed shouldn't it?
It almost seems as if the bypass unit is not flashed correctly or something also because when i plug it in the led stays on solid red and does not flash or anything whether i push the programming button or not. I have tried to reset the bypass but i have yet been able to program it.
Also you mention about programming the tach signal. Do I need to do this before the engine will crank over?

Maybe not. The Equinox I did threw a curve at me. I made all my connections, but did not plug in the power to the DB-ALL module I used. I tried to use the key to start the car to make sure it was still ok. Car would not start with the key. Would not even turn over. I disconnected all of the DB-ALL harness and still no cranking. I was confused, so I went ahead with programming the DB-ALL and then the key worked again and remote start worked. Maybe you are having the same issue with the XK09. ------------- When all else fails, Read the Instructions
