Hey guys, I'm performing an install on a 2003 GMC Sierra 1500HD (gas, auto) with an Avital 4103 module using a DBALL bypass module using D2D mode. I've got it all setup per their wiring diagram, the lock/unlock/panic feature all work correctly, however the remote start circuit never activates from the 4103. I've verified with a test light and multi meter that the Ignition, Accessory, Starter circuits never get energized via the remotes when the sequence is initiated. These do get energized all the way to the 4103 when the key is used, so I know the wiring connections are good. Also, Valet mode does not work, pushing the remote start button, then turning the key off to leave the vehicle running.

The 4103 clicks audibly and is felt when the lock/unlock are activated, but it seems lifeless with the remote start function. I've got the ground connected properly, including the on/off override switch. The unit flashes the red LED on/off/on/off constantly if the doors are locked via the remotes, and goes off when unlocked. The diagnostic mode to see the failure of the last remote start attempt also does nothing but blink on/off/on/off constantly.

It feels like I'm missing an input to the Avital to let it know that it's "OK" to activate, or a safety circuit is incomplete. Perhaps maybe even a fault in the unit that the lighting sequence is indicating that is not in the operation/installation manual.

4: (+) (30A) High Current 12 Input - to red ignition wire
5: (+) Programmable output for ignition 2 – to white
6: (+) (30A) High Current 12 Input - to RED / white ignition wire

Door lock harness
1: (-) Unlock output – N/A
2: N/A
3: (-) Unlock output – N/A

Remote start harness (H2)
H2/1: (-) Neutral safety switch input – To ground (-)
H2/2: Tachometer wire – N/A
H2/3: (+) Brake switch shutdown – to white brake pedal wire (+ when brake is pushed)
H2/4: (-) Hood pin switch - ground (-)
H2/5 (-) 200ma 2nd status/rear defogger output - N/A.

DBALL violet / YELLOW to violet pin 2 on OBDII connector.

You have listed the hood pin switch wire to ground. The R/S unit will not start if this wire is getting ground.

A hood pin should be installed but if you're not going to then that wire shouldn't be connected. The switch would be grounded with the hood open therefore the R/S won't start.

The diagnostic on/off blinks after a failure to start lets you know what caused the failure based on how many times it blinks.

agreed unhook hood pin switch from ground it will cause this exact issue. also if brake wire isnt correct will do same thing if its on a constant 12 volt feed

I completely missed that guys, now looking at the hood pin switch it seems obvious that it's grounded when the hood is open, not when closed. I'll give it a try and let you know!
