96 deville remote start

Hello, I am brand new to this forum, so please bear with me.  I also have installed a few remote starters in the past.  I just installed a Avital 5103L remote start in my 1996 Cadillac DeVille.  All works including the trunk release and door locks. The problem is when I use the remote start, after the engine is started, after a few seconds the check engine light comes on as well as the TCS Light.  The codes tell me it is a data problem and according to the Cadillac forum, it is something to do with the ignition switch, which makes sense as I tapped into the ign switch wires.  Anyone out there have a similar problem?  Thanks in advance.  Kim

Hello, I posted a little earlier, now I have a quick question for a remote starter installer.  I just noticed on the wiring diagram on this site, it shows 3 ign wires for my car, pink as 1, brown as 2, and lt blue as 3.  I have been using the diagram from Bulldog and it only shows pink as 1, and lt blue as 2, and none for 3.  My question is do all these ignition wires need to be hooked up?  If so this may be my problem.  Thanks in advance, Kim

There is conflicting information out there for your car. You'll need to test what each wire is actually doing with a test light or meter. Accessory wires loose power when the car is cranking(think of your radio turning off while starting the car and turning back on when it starts). An ignition wire will keep power while the car is cranking. So you'll need to test each wire while starting the car and see the results for your car. You'll want to duplicate with the remote starter the same actions as if you were starting the car with the key. If the actions are not correct you'll end up with either a car not starting or starting but with a "check engine light" or something to that effect. Here is the information I had for your car:

Ignition 1: Pink
Accessory 1: Light Blue a different source says this is ignition 2, this is why you need to test for yourself...
Accessory 2: Orange

Now it doesn't mention the brown, but traditionally brown would be an accessory wire on GM's and usually not needed to power it up at all from those years. But if everything else checks out and you are still getting a check engine light, you might need to power up the brown using a relay for your particular car. What Brand/model # Remote starter are you using?

Oh, and traditionally Pink is ignition and orange is accessory for those years of GM Vehicles. But again, test for yourself since you are having problems with a check engine light according to an earlier post.

Oh and test your wires with the key as well as the remote starter. This way you are sure that the remote starter is mimicking the same function as the key.

Another quick question:  If I in fact have 3 ignition wires (1,2,3) and only 2 ignition outputs on my remote, how do I power up the other ign 3 circuit?  Can I splice into the Ign 2 output, or do I need a relay activated by ign 1, or 2 output?  I do think I have a circuit not engergized during the remote start that is normally energized during normal start, causing the serial data link code for the traction control and causing the check engine lite.  Thanks again in advance, Kim

I am about to install a Avital one button remote start in my 2005 Cadillac DeVille. I am using a Avital 4113 remote start and a DEI GMDLBP Xpresskit for the transponder bypass.  Any tricks with this setup/combo?  This is the first remote I have installed with a transponder key.  Thanks in advance, Kim
