starter kill system, any ideas?

I have a customer that has a 2004 Dodge 2500 that had an aftermarket starter kill system installed. The remote has no markings, and I can't find a relay box. I need to remove this unit. The owner presses the button and then turns the key to start the truck.

Trace the wiring from either the starter wire or LED if present, probably a black box behind the instrument panel

I tried tracing the wires from the key switch back to instrument panel, no luck. The wires look and are colored the same as OEM wires. I tried listening for a relay box to click before start and no luck. I was thinking there may be a t-harness installed but I dont know.

If it's a starter kill system, then the starter wire MUST be cut somewhere. Start at the ignition barrel and follow the yellow wire until it gets split. Then follow those wires to the module.

i guess if they wanted to be crafty when they installed the device, it is possible that they cut the starter somewhere farther down the line. check if there is a starter relay in the fusebox under the hood. if there is a dedicated starter relay then it is possible they cut the wire at the fusebox.

Are we all running around in circles? This a 10 minute job or half an hour if you haven't done one before.
And if the OP thinks there's a T-harness, then look for both plugs, remove and rejoin, job done.

As usual, I agree completely with Howie...this should be a 10 minute job start to finish. The under hood relay box is the first place to check if you're absolutely sure there is no cut wire in the steering column harness. I have not seen that exact remote previously, however I have seen similar systems that are a 'plug in' system...simply pull the OEM relay under the hood and swap it out with the new one. I have also removed everyone I've come across because of problems. The ones with remotes normally have a wire coming from the 'relay' that is the antenna so it should be very easy to find.

Thanks 12 for pointing that out, I've only ever seen the "factory!" unit on mid 90s Cherokees, always behind gauge cluster.
That's a great idea to check the starter relay, oblong box next to the battery.
